Job Description

1. Job Summary

The Custodian II cleans and maintains Genie Recon buildings, facilities, and equipment to support a clean, safe, and healthy work environment across production, warehouse, office, and common areas. The Custodian II works under moderate supervision, has or is developing full proficiency in custodial and light facilities work, and performs basic maintenance and minor repairs as assigned. This position supports facility coordination tasks, maintains service records, and assists with work order scheduling in support of the Maintenance department.

2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Clean and maintain assigned buildings, facilities, and equipment, including production floors, restrooms, breakrooms, offices, and common areas, on a scheduled and as-needed basis.
  • Operate cleaning tools, chemicals, and powered cleaning equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, pressure washers) safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions and company procedures.
  • Handle, dilute, store, and apply cleaning chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labeling requirements, and OSHA Hazard Communication (29 CFR 1910.1200) practices.
  • Remove and dispose of trash, recycling, and waste in accordance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable environmental requirements.
  • Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs as assigned (e.g., replacing light fixtures/bulbs, minor plumbing fixture adjustments, hardware tightening, touch-up work).
  • Inspect assigned areas for cleanliness, damage, safety hazards, and supply levels; report deficiencies and hazards to the Maintenance Supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain accurate service records for completed cleaning and maintenance tasks; document work performed as required.
  • Restock consumable supplies (paper products, soap, PPE dispensers) and notify the supervisor of reorder needs.
  • Follow all safety rules, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for chemicals, bloodborne pathogens (BBP) exposure, and participate in required safety training.

Non-Essential (Marginal) Duties:

  • Assist with preventive maintenance tasks and facility coordination projects under direction of Maintenance personnel.
  • Support work order scheduling and tracking as requested.
  • Assist with facility setup for meetings, training sessions, and company events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

3. Required Qualifications (Minimum)

  • One (1) to three (3) years of related custodial, janitorial, or facilities cleaning experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and written work instructions.
  • Ability to safely use common cleaning chemicals, tools, and powered cleaning equipment, or ability to be trained to full proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently under moderate supervision and manage assigned tasks to completion.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (industrial environment).

4. Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Prior custodial experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or warehouse environment.
  • Experience with basic building maintenance or minor repair work.
  • Familiarity with OSHA Hazard Communication and chemical safety practices.
  • Experience using a computerized work order or maintenance tracking system.

5. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling, dilution, and storage practices.
  • Skill in operating powered cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
  • Skill in performing basic maintenance and minor repair tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, follow schedules, and complete work with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, legible service records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and building occupants.
  • Ability to recognize and report safety hazards.

6. Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull for extended periods during a shift.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with appropriate equipment or assistance.
  • Frequently use hands to handle tools, equipment, and cleaning materials; occasional climbing of ladders or step stools.
  • Work in a manufacturing/industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, cleaning chemicals, and varying indoor temperatures; occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to identify labels, hazards, and cleanliness conditions.
