Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for coordinating the safe, efficient, and accurate movement of finished products, including copper cathodes, copper concentrate, and molybdenum, from the mine site to customers. This role oversees outbound logistics, shipping documentation, metal accounting, inventory reconciliation, and transportation activities to ensure products are delivered on time and in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with Operations, Commercial, Finance, Supply Chain, and external logistics providers, the Logistics Specialist maintains the integrity of inventory and metal accounting records, supports cost-effective transportation strategies, and drives continuous improvement across the logistics process.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Logistics Coordination: Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily and weekly shipments of copper concentrate, copper cathodes, and molybdenum products to meet production and customer delivery requirements.
  • Shipment Planning: Coordinate shipment schedules with Operations, Commercial, transportation providers, and port facilities to achieve on-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery performance.
  • Shipping Documentation: Prepare and maintain shipping documentation, including bills of lading, shipping instructions, export documentation, and other required transportation records.
  • Metal Accounting: Maintain accurate reconciliation of finished product inventory across site storage, in-transit shipments, port inventories, and vessel shipments.
  • Inventory Reconciliation: Investigate and resolve discrepancies involving weights, assays, inventory balances, and transportation losses to ensure alignment between physical inventory and system records.
  • Risk Management: Monitor logistics activities to maintain chain of custody through seal verification, weight validation, and shipment tracking while supporting loss prevention initiatives.
  • Issue Resolution: Execute established discrepancy response procedures, coordinate investigations, and implement corrective actions for shipment variances or inventory discrepancies.
  • Compliance: Ensure logistics activities comply with company policies, transportation regulations, export requirements, and applicable MSHA standards.
  • Operational Support: Maintain readiness of logistics materials and supplies required for concentrate and cathode shipments, including sampling materials, seals, tags, and documentation.
  • Production Coordination: Coordinate shipment planning with Marketing and Operations to align production forecasts with customer shipment schedules.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Prepare accurate logistics, inventory, and shipment reports while analyzing transportation performance, inventory trends, transit times, and logistics costs.
  • SAP Transactions: Process logistics-related transactions in SAP, including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, service entry sheets, notifications, and shipment tracking activities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve logistics efficiency, reduce freight costs, minimize demurrage, improve inventory accuracy, and enhance cross-functional coordination.
  • Safety: Promote safe work practices and ensure all logistics activities are conducted in compliance with site safety standards and regulatory requirements.
POSITION REQUIREMENTSRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in logistics, supply chain, mining, or industrial operations.
  • Experience coordinating outbound shipments, transportation providers, shipping documentation, and inventory tracking.
  • Knowledge of bulk materials logistics, transportation coordination, and inventory reconciliation principles.
  • Proficiency with SAP logistics or materials management functions.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across operational, commercial, and financial teams.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Preferred
  • Experience within mining, metals, or bulk commodity logistics.
  • Experience supporting export logistics and port operations.
  • Knowledge of metal accounting principles and inventory reconciliation processes.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Primarily site-based with a combination of office and field responsibilities.
  • Regular interaction with production areas, warehouses, transportation staging areas, and shipping facilities.
  • Frequent walking on uneven surfaces and active mining or industrial work areas.
  • Occasional climbing of stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • May require lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in operational areas.
