Job Description
Chief Financial Officer
Reports To: Jett Management President
Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer provides financial leadership across a diverse group of affiliated companies. This position is responsible for protecting the financial health of the organization, strengthening financial systems, and helping company leaders make sound, well-informed decisions.
The CFO must be able to see the organization as a whole, while still understanding what is happening inside each company, location, and department. This is not a finance role that operates from a distance. It requires strong judgment, practical problem-solving, and a willingness to step into the details when the work needs to be done.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Leadership and Strategy
- Lead financial planning and strategy across all affiliated companies.
- Provide the CEO and executive team with clear financial analysis, forecasts, and recommendations.
- Develop annual budgets, cash-flow projections, financial targets, and long-term plans.
- Identify financial risks, performance concerns, and opportunities to improve profitability.
- Evaluate acquisitions, expansions, major purchases, financing options, and new business opportunities.
- Turn complex financial information into practical guidance leaders can use.
Multi-Company Financial Oversight
- Oversee accounting, reporting, and financial performance across multiple legal entities and business lines.
- Maintain clear financial visibility into each company, location, and department.
- Ensure intercompany transactions, shared expenses, loans, and allocations are properly documented and recorded.
- Establish consistent financial standards and controls while accounting for the needs of different businesses.
- Monitor results against budgets, forecasts, and organizational goals.
Accounting, Compliance, and Risk Management
- Oversee general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements are accurate and completed on time.
- Coordinate tax preparation, audits, insurance renewals, banking relationships, and outside financial services.
- Maintain appropriate internal controls and safeguards for company assets.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, lending, insurance, and recordkeeping requirements.
- Support HR and operational leaders with compensation planning, benefit-cost analysis, payroll controls, and workforce budgeting.
Cash and Capital Management
- Maintain oversight of cash flow, working capital, debt obligations, borrowing needs, and company liquidity.
- Manage relationships with banks, lenders, accountants, insurance providers, and other financial partners.
- Evaluate financing options and negotiate terms that support the organization’s long-term interests.
- Review major expenditures and help ensure company resources are used responsibly.
Leadership and Business Partnership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.
- Partner with company leaders to improve financial understanding and accountability.
- Help managers understand the financial impact of operational decisions.
- Lead and develop accounting and finance team members.
- Establish clear expectations, deadlines, and standards for financial work.
- Promote accuracy, transparency, confidentiality, and responsible decision-making.
Hands-On Organizational Support
- Step into operational, administrative, or project-based work when the organization needs additional leadership or execution.
- Support company transitions, acquisitions, new locations, system implementations, and other major initiatives.
- Help solve problems that may not fall neatly within one department or job title.
- Work at both the strategic and practical level, including completing routine or behind-the-scenes tasks when necessary.
- Maintain a team-first approach and contribute wherever financial leadership, sound judgment, or hands-on assistance provides value.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field required.
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or comparable advanced qualification preferred.
- Significant progressive experience in accounting, financial management, or executive financial leadership.
- Experience supporting privately held, family-owned, multi-location, or multi-company organizations strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, taxation, internal controls, and business analysis.
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple companies and industries.
- Strong judgment, discretion, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical execution.
- Comfortable working in an evolving organization where responsibilities may cross traditional departmental boundaries.
Work Schedule and Travel
This position requires flexibility based on the needs of the organization. Work outside normal business hours may occasionally be required during financial deadlines, acquisitions, system changes, major projects, or other significant business events.
Occasional travel between company locations, project sites, and meetings with financial or business partners is required.
Additional Expectations
This job description reflects the primary responsibilities of the position but is not intended to capture every assignment. Because the organization operates multiple companies across different industries, the CFO must be adaptable and willing to take on evolving responsibilities that support the success of the organization.
