Wheelchair Clinic Therapist

POSITION SUMMARY

The Wheelchair Clinic Therapist is responsible for patient activity within the wheelchair clinic. This includes, but is not limited, the evaluation of patients for appropriate equipment fittings, prescribing activities and equipment and assist with the follow through necessary for ordering power and manual seating/positioning and mobility systems for both inpatients and outpatients.

Location: 3425 S Clarkson St, Englewood, CO 80113

Shift Options: Monday-Friday 8 am-4:30 pm MST

Compensation: Exempt, $84,676.80- $121,950.40

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations:
    • Current Colorado occupational therapy or physical therapy license or licensed in another state and application made for Colorado license; required
    • If an OT, NBCOT certification; required
    • Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association; required
    • Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP) certification; preferred.
  • Education:
    • Graduate of an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or physical therapy curriculum accredited schools.
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years clinical experience with neurologic population required, TBI and SCI; preferred
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Possess strong interpersonal skills in order to build effective clinical leadership. Ability to conduct themselves in a diplomatic and tactful manner with professionals and non-professionals at all levels. Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate, problem solve, and adapt to a changing environment with competence. Possess a dedication to teamwork and commitment to excellence. Must have the ability to apply strong clinical knowledge and decision making regarding seating/positioning and various mobility systems to recommend appropriate equipment for person's with neurologic disabilities. Must have basic computer skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Consistently demonstrate expertise and knowledge in seating/positioning and mobility systems.
  • Develop and implement training plans for professional growth to ensure the most current knowledge of seating/positioning and mobility systems is shared throughout the PT and OT departments.
  • Collaborate with all clinical departments for staff education regarding appropriate seating/positioning and mobility systems.
  • Co-treat with primary therapist on initial wheelchair evaluation to determine most appropriate seating system and mobility device.
  • Communicate and partner with primary therapists to ensure appropriate seating/positioning and mobility systems have been ordered and Letter of Medical Necessity's have been completed prior to each patient's discharge date.
  • Complete wheelchair evaluation process with patient, including fitting of seating system, identifying appropriate controls for powered mobility, and programming electronics when appropriate.
  • Identify and fit donated/loaner wheelchair if primary wheelchair will not arrive before patient discharge.
  • Provide mentorship and education for clinical staff in regard to seating/positioning and mobility systems.
  • Develop teaching strategies, incorporating Hospital standards, and establishing realistic goals for patients to meet their learning needs.
  • Educate patients regarding opportunities for, as well as benefits and drawbacks of, component part options and configurations as related to mobility device prescription.
  • Facilitate equipment trials to enable patients to select mobility device configuration to meet wheeled mobility needs.
