You will join a mission-driven, remote-first engineering organization focused on building privacy-preserving technologies that protect users at scale. In this role, you will design, build, and evolve core privacy systems that power products used by millions of people worldwide. You will work on complex technical challenges spanning search, tracking protection, and user data minimization, with a strong emphasis on security and ethical engineering. You will be responsible for designing and maintaining privacy-focused systems and features, ensuring robust protection mechanisms across large-scale products while contributing to long-term technical strategy and execution.

• Design, build, and maintain privacy-preserving systems using Go, Node.js, Python, or similar languages.
• Develop and enhance core privacy features such as tracker protection, data minimization systems, and threat detection tools.
• Contribute to the evolution of privacy infrastructure, including systems related to crawling, indexing, and detection of tracking technologies.
• Participate in privacy reviews and audits to ensure compliance with internal privacy principles and standards.
• Lead and contribute to complex engineering projects from design through postmortem analysis.
• Identify emerging privacy threats and design technical solutions to mitigate them effectively.
• Collaborate across engineering teams to ensure privacy is embedded into all stages of product development.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to technical growth across the team.
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You should bring strong backend or systems engineering experience with a focus on privacy, security, or large-scale distributed systems, along with the ability to lead complex technical initiatives.

• Experience in software engineering with proficiency in Go, Node.js, Python, Perl, or similar languages.
• Strong background in building or contributing to privacy-focused technologies (e.g., tracker blocking, anti-tracking systems, differential privacy, or similar).
• Deep understanding of online privacy threats, tracking mechanisms, and mitigation strategies.
• Experience leading complex engineering projects from concept through delivery and maintenance.
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to handle ambiguous, evolving technical challenges.
• Experience working in distributed systems or large-scale backend environments.
• Excellent communication skills, with ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Experience collaborating in remote, cross-functional engineering teams.
• Ability to mentor and support the growth of other engineers.
