Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

MAINTENANCE PERFORMANCE & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT SPECIALIST

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Maintenance Performance & Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for optimizing maintenance expenditures, improving cost forecasting accuracy, and ensuring compliance with annual Opex and Capex budgets across Mine and Process Maintenance.

This role leads continuous improvement initiatives that enhance maintenance performance, asset reliability, planning effectiveness, and operational efficiency. The position provides analytical insights and performance reporting to support maintenance leadership, ensuring alignment with the Asset Management Framework (AMF) and corporate requirements. The role develops weekly, monthly, and annual management reports, maintains performance dashboards, coordinates cost models for Short Term, Outlook, and Budget cycles, and collaborates with Supply Chain and Finance to improve contract management, procurement processes, and cost control practices.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety & Compliance:

  • Demonstrate company values and promote a strong safety culture in all work activities.
  • Comply with MSHA regulations, site safety standards, environmental requirements, and company policies.
  • Support safe execution of maintenance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

Cost Control & Financial Management:

  • Manage and monitor Opex and Capex expenditures across Mine and Process Maintenance cost centers.
  • Conduct Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses to support long-term maintenance and asset management strategies.
  • Prepare and maintain cost models for Short Term, Outlook, and annual Budget cycles.
  • Lead weekly, monthly, and annual financial reporting, including variance analysis and KPI tracking.
  • Support month-end close activities, ensuring accurate cost allocation and reporting.
  • Monitor maintenance contracts for scope, cost, schedule compliance, and renewal requirements.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain and Finance to improve contracting strategies, procurement processes, and cost controls.
  • Ensure timely processing and reconciliation of purchase orders, service entries, and supplier invoices.

Maintenance Performance & Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain performance dashboards and reporting tools using Power BI and other reporting platforms.
  • Generate weekly and monthly maintenance performance reports for leadership review.
  • Track and analyze maintenance KPIs, including availability, utilization, schedule compliance, backlog management, and reliability metrics.
  • Facilitate performance review meetings and communicate findings to maintenance leadership.
  • Maintain controlled maintenance documents, procedures, work processes, and reporting records.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across Mine and Process Maintenance functions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to investigate performance gaps and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Support implementation and compliance with the Asset Management Framework (AMF).
  • Develop improvement plans, track progress, and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Facilitate collaboration between Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to achieve improvement objectives.

Data Analysis & Decision Support:

  • Analyze maintenance, operational, and financial data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide recommendations to maintenance leadership based on performance data and business needs.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives through forecasting, benchmarking, and performance analysis.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in maintenance planning, reliability engineering, maintenance cost control, continuous improvement, or related functions within mining or heavy industrial operations.
• Strong understanding of asset management principles, including ISO 55000 standards and maintenance best practices.
• Experience managing maintenance budgets, forecasts, contracts, and performance metrics.
• Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), preferably SAP.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling and data analysis.
• Experience developing dashboards and reports using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools.
• Knowledge of maintenance planning, reliability, and asset performance management processes.
• Experience with budgeting and forecasting systems such as Xeras or equivalent platforms.
• Experience supporting both mobile equipment and process plant maintenance operations.
• Experience leading cross-functional improvement projects within mining operations.
• Certification in Asset Management, Reliability, Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Advanced knowledge of SAP reporting and maintenance modules.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong ability to influence and collaborate across multiple departments and disciplines.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Combination of office and field-based work in an active mining environment.
• Approximately 80% office work focused on financial analysis, forecasting, reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
• Approximately 20% field work supporting maintenance teams, conducting site walkdowns, validating data, and identifying improvement opportunities.
• Regular exposure to industrial environments, including noise, dust, vibration, and varying weather conditions.
• Frequent walking on uneven surfaces and active operating areas.
• Ability to climb stairs and access maintenance work areas as required.
• Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to work safely around mobile equipment, processing facilities, and maintenance operations.
