Position Summary:

The Maintenance Repair Leader performs supervisory duties involving maintenance, repair, and construction of buildings, grounds, or roadways, and related systems and equipment to enhance and maintain assets at a prescribed standard.

Essential Functions & Duties:

  • Oversees and perform daily activities of skilled trades and maintenance personnel engaged in construction, repair and maintenance of buildings, grounds, or roadways, and related systems and equipment. Responsible for morning and afternoon meetings and able to communicate and explain of status report and/or changes to department management team and department head. Maintenance and repair tasks and duties may require additional or adjusted work schedules such as night, weekends, holidays and requires response for Emergency and/or disasters.
  • Answers questions and provides information related to work assignments including resolving problems, handling complaints and providing technical expertise in area of assignment. Monitors, prioritizes, participates in, and inspects work activities to ensure compliance with plans. Determines, schedules and oversees preventive maintenance activities to increase operational effectiveness and extend the lifecycle of assets.
  • Operates passenger bridges on weekdays, after hours or weekend, work on events, emergency calls, disaster recovery or any other circumstances where the department need it. Responsible for performance evaluations and capability to provide training and counseling to subordinates.
  • Work with sunshine 811 call system and able to locate any underground utilities based on tickets or design tickets. Work with the Tracer Es and GIS system and any other software or applications. Work on monthly water meter reading or electrical meter reading and any other monthly inspections or reports. Perform other related duties as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of equipment, tools and materials used in construction, repairs and maintenance of buildings, grounds or roadways and related systems and equipment. Knowledge on operating and troubleshooting Passenger Bridges. Knowledge on reading and interpreting blue print or drawings. Some knowledge of laws, ordinance, rules, regulations and standard operating procedures related to the construction, repairs and maintenance of buildings. Working knowledge of record keeping, safety practices and principles related to construction .Working knowledge of the organization's procurement process. Knowledge of working in a hazardous environment, under pressure, before, during and after nature disaster or other emergencies.
  • Skilled in two or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, HVAC, in a commercial setting. Basic to intermediate computer skills. Skilled using utility locating equipment and measuring tools. Skilled in the operation of hand tools. Skilled in the operation of Heavy Equipment, Passenger Bridges a Plus. Skilled interpreting blue prints.
  • Ability to work various work schedules as needed, including emergency and/or disaster recovery situations (as member of Port PUSH TEAM for Emergency Response). Ability to climb ladders, operate forklift, operate port vehicles that require CDL license and others . Ability to operate Heavy Equipment a plus. Ability to work events, ability to work at the cruise terminals during cruise season and any other required event outside of the normal business hours including nights and weekends. Ability to inspect and maintain building's safety. Ability to keep utility records of Port owned properties and any records for the benefit of the Department's needs and goals.
  • Ability to do a continuing education or training based on department needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively, confidently and professionally with PTB officials and employees, PTB tenants and the general public.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.
  • Must possess honesty, integrity and sound professional judgment.
Requirements:

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED; and
  • Seven or more years of experience on construction, maintenance, or skilled trades: including one or more years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Experience on record keeping, reading blue prints, getting quotes, on safety practices and experience on standard office equipment, software and applications. Experience working in a hazardous environment; under pressure; before, during and after nature disaster or other emergencies.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies listed above.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License.
  • Must successfully pass a seaport security background check and compliance for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at the time of hire or successfully obtain one within 12 months of placement in the position. For candidates hired without a CDL, completion of required CDL training and licensure must occur within the first 12 months of employment, beginning on the date of hire, as a condition of successfully completing the probationary period.

  • May require lifting (up to 50 lbs., bending, climbing, walking)
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous chemical solutions
  • Exposure to inclement weather
  • Flexibility in work schedule as determined by responsibilities of this position.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequent computer use.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Employees work five days a week which may include weekends. The department head will designate the work schedule. May require additional or adjusted work schedules such as night, weekends, holidays and requires response for Emergency and/or disasters.
