Billing and Coding Supervisor

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Billing and Coding Supervisor based in United States.

This role is responsible for overseeing daily billing and coding operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission of clean claims in a high-volume healthcare environment. You will supervise and support a team of coders and billing staff, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight to ensure operational excellence. The position plays a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement across workflows, documentation standards, and coding quality. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional departments such as operations, eligibility, and collections to resolve issues that impact billing performance. A strong focus is placed on auditing, process optimization, and translating data into actionable improvements. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who combines technical coding expertise with strong team management and problem-solving skills.

Accountabilities:

Supervise and support billing and coding operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across daily workflows and team performance.

  • Oversee daily billing and coding activities, ensuring adherence to departmental standards for accuracy, compliance, and timely claim submission.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, and operational performance, identifying trends and recommending process improvements.
  • Provide training, coaching, and ongoing education to coding and billing staff on guidelines, updates, and best practices.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and educational resources related to coding standards, documentation, and regulatory updates.
  • Serve as a primary resource for billing and coding inquiries, resolving issues and escalating complex cases when necessary.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, eligibility, and collections to resolve billing-related issues.
  • Conduct audits and quality reviews to ensure compliance with CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and payer regulations.
  • Support reporting, data preparation, and month-end billing processes.
  • Lead or support special projects aimed at improving workflows and operational efficiency.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced coding professional with strong leadership abilities, deep technical coding knowledge, and a proven ability to manage teams in a regulated healthcare environment.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
  • 3+ years of direct leadership experience managing teams of 5 or more staff members.
  • 3+ years of experience as a medical coder in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong expertise in CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, LCDs, NCDs, CMS guidelines, and NCCI regulations.
  • Solid understanding of payer policies and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including moderate Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and drive operational improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-department collaboration and staff development.
  • Strong research ability to stay current with coding and regulatory updates.
  • Preferred experience in podiatry, orthopedic coding, or California IPA environments.
Benefits:
