Join our Production team for 10 weeks Metlakatla, AK for the salmon season!
Job Overview:
The Refrigeration Technician / Operator II is a vital role, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our ammonia refrigeration systems. This position involves maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration equipment both during the processing season and the off-season at the Barge Plant. The primary goal is to guarantee optimal performance of the refrigeration system and strict adherence to all safety regulations.
Compensation:
This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime pay. Extensive overtime is frequently required with total workdays up to 16 hours. During the Salmon season we are sometimes open 7 days a week, workdays vary Sunday through Saturday. Workdays and shift times will vary with seafood deliveries and other factors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and related equipment.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs on all vessel and shore side facilities, including plumbing, hydraulic and electrical systems.
- System Monitoring: Continuously monitor refrigeration systems to ensure they are operating within established parameters, and promptly address any deviations or malfunctions.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements, including handling ammonia safely and maintaining proper documentation.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues in the refrigeration system to minimize downtime and ensure production efficiency.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance for future reference and regulatory compliance.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and production staff to ensure seamless operation of the refrigeration systems and support overall production goals.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment, including wearing appropriate safety gear and reporting hazards.
Quality Control and Compliance:
Adhere strictly to all established sanitation procedures, including regular and thorough cleaning of equipment and work areas, to maintain the highest level of hygiene. Ensure meticulous compliance with all internal and external product quality policies, specifications, and regulatory standards (e.g., HACCP, FDA, state regulations). This includes monitoring product temperature, handling, and storage to prevent spoilage, contamination, or degradation, thereby guaranteeing the safety and premium quality of Circle Seafoods' product throughout the refrigeration and processing workflow.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3-6 years of experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems, preferably in a seafood processing or industrial setting.
- Certifications: Ammonia Refrigeration Technician or equivalent and EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification certification.
- Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with electrical systems, plumbing, and hydraulics, pneumatic systems, welding, refrigeration and general industrial maintenance.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues under pressure.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and handle the physical demands of the job.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively document work and collaborate with team members.
- Availability: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, during the peak processing season.
- Must live on site in Alaska for the summer salmon season
Work Environment:
- This role involves working on your feet for long hours, both indoors and outdoors.
- Key Physical Requirements & Duties:
- Heavy Lifting & Handling: Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, sometimes over 100 lbs with assistance, to handle heavy compressors, motors, and equipment.
- Stamina for Challenging Environments: Extensive walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, and crawling for extended periods, often on concrete surfaces.
- Positional Flexibility: Ability to work in confined spaces, tight crawlspaces, or at heights, often for long periods, sometimes up to 12 hours.
- Climbing: Frequently climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stairs to access rooftop units.
- Temperature Tolerance: Working in very hot, cold, and loud environments, including working inside industrial freezers.
- Manual Dexterity: Using hand and power tools with precision for tasks like soldering, pipe fitting, and wiring.
