Position Summary

The Shipping and Receiving Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership and daily execution of all shipping, receiving, warehousing, inventory control, and material movement activities within the Supply Chain organization. This position ensures the efficient flow of raw materials, components, and finished goods into and out of the facility while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, service, and cost performance.

The Shipping and Receiving Manager leads warehouse and logistics personnel, develops and implements operational strategies, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize inventory accuracy, shipping performance, receiving efficiency, warehouse utilization, and customer satisfaction. This role partners closely with Production, Customer Service, Procurement, Planning, and Quality teams to ensure seamless material flow and on-time delivery of customer orders.

The Shipping and Receiving Manager is responsible for developing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), managing freight and transportation costs, maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence. This position plays a critical role in supporting manufacturing operations, customer service objectives, and the overall success of the business.

Essential Functions
  • Direct and oversee all shipping, receiving, warehouse, and inventory control activities to ensure efficient and accurate movement of materials and finished goods.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and manage shipping and receiving personnel, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and employee development.
  • Establish and maintain safe work practices while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements.
  • Develop and implement processes to improve warehouse productivity, inventory accuracy, and shipping performance.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound transportation activities to ensure timely receipt of materials and on-time customer deliveries.
  • Manage relationships with freight carriers, logistics providers, and transportation partners to optimize service levels and freight costs.
  • Monitor inventory transactions and partner with Operations, Planning, and Procurement to ensure material availability and inventory accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies, inventory variances, receiving issues, and customer delivery concerns.
  • Establish, monitor, and report key performance indicators including on-time shipment performance, inventory accuracy, freight costs, warehouse productivity, and receiving efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance related to domestic and international shipments, hazardous materials, and regulatory requirements where applicable.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Production, Quality, and Procurement teams to support business objectives and customer requirements.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, labor utilization, and operating expenses.
  • Support audits and maintain accurate records related to inventory, shipping transactions, and warehouse operations.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions related to logistics, inventory, and transportation issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety requirements and regulatory compliance.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Experience
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, logistics, or supply chain management.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience within a manufacturing, distribution, or warehouse environment.
  • Experience managing hourly employees and supervising warehouse operations.
  • Experience with inventory control systems and ERP software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • APICS, CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, CSCMP, or other supply chain/logistics certifications preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Epicor preferred).
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience managing freight contracts, carrier relationships, and transportation providers.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international shipping requirements and customs documentation.
  • Experience leading inventory accuracy and cycle count programs.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated success using data-driven decision making.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to walk warehouse and production areas regularly.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the facility as required.
