Field Operations Superintendent – Metals Construction
Location: Virginia & Maryland
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Salary: $90,000 annually (higher compensation available based on experience)
We are seeking a Field Operations Superintendent to oversee installation activities for miscellaneous metals projects throughout Virginia and Maryland. This leadership role is responsible for managing field personnel, coordinating resources, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring projects are completed according to schedule and quality expectations.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in miscellaneous metals installation, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and crews across various job sites.
Key ResponsibilitiesField Leadership- Direct and support foremen, installers, and field personnel on active construction projects.
- Provide leadership and guidance to ensure efficient project execution and workforce productivity.
- Conduct regular job site visits to monitor progress and address field challenges.
- Assist with workforce planning and labor allocation across multiple projects.
- Promote a strong safety-first culture throughout all field operations.
- Conduct and support safety meetings, training activities, and job site inspections.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and customer-specific safety standards.
- Investigate and address safety concerns, incidents, and corrective actions when necessary.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor activities to support project schedules.
- Work closely with project managers, contractors, and internal departments to maintain alignment on project goals.
- Monitor installation schedules and communicate project updates to leadership.
- Identify potential risks and develop solutions to minimize delays and disruptions.
- Support field operations involving stairs, handrails, structural metal components, rigging, and finish work.
- Verify that installation activities meet project specifications and quality requirements.
- Assist teams in resolving technical and field-related challenges.
- Ensure proper execution of fabrication and installation standards.
- Maintain quality expectations throughout all phases of project execution.
- Track manpower utilization and forecast future labor requirements.
- Review project performance and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Help develop best practices that improve efficiency, safety, and project outcomes.
- 10+ years of experience in miscellaneous metals installation, steel construction, or a related field.
- Proven experience leading field crews, foremen, and construction teams.
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 standards and welding processes including SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
- Experience using Bluebeam, Trimble Connect, and Tekla software.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Virginia and Maryland, including occasional overnight stays.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
