The Position
The Vice President of Compliance & Risk provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Credit Union’s compliance and risk management programs. This role is responsible for ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and proactive risk management throughout the organization. As a key member of the leadership team, this position serves as a trusted advisor to executive management, providing guidance on regulatory, operational, strategic, and reputational risks. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective Compliance Management System (CMS), overseeing the Credit Union’s BSA/AML/OFAC program, and leading enterprise-wide risk management initiatives that support the organization’s strategic objectives.

This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the Credit Union’s reputation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a strong risk management framework that supports long-term organizational success.
Work Schedule & Branch
• Location: Perry Hall, Maryland.
• This is a Full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week.
• The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
• Duties are performed in a professional office environment. Responsibilities may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, working from a different branch, working before and/or after business hours, working on Saturdays and working hours exceeding the standard work schedule.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field required. Professional certification, such as one of the following from America’s Credit Unions, is strongly preferred:
• Certified Credit Union Compliance Officer (CUCO)
• Certified Credit Union Internal Auditor (CCUIA)
• Certified Bank Secrecy Act Professional (CBSAP)
• Credit Union Enterprise Risk Certification (CUERC)
Minimum Required Experience: Five years of experience in compliance, risk management, internal audit, or related financial institution functions required. Credit union experience is preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Other Requirements:
• Ability to align compliance and risk management initiatives with organizational goals and provide leadership in a changing regulatory environment.
• Ability to analyze complex issues, identify risk exposure, evaluate trends, and develop practical, effective solutions.
• Ability to make sound, timely, and well-informed decisions while balancing regulatory requirements, operational needs, and organizational risk.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with employees, executive leadership, regulators, auditors, and the Board of Directors, both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC regulatory requirements and expectations.
• Knowledge of enterprise risk management (ERM) principles, including risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting.
• Knowledge of compliance management systems (CMS), including governance, monitoring, testing, and corrective action processes.
• Knowledge of regulatory examination and internal/external audit processes, including coordination, response management, and remediation tracking.
• Knowledge of third-party and vendor risk management practices, including due diligence, contracting, and ongoing monitoring.
• Knowledge of lending compliance requirements, including HMDA and related mortgage lending regulations and reporting standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to utilize compliance, risk, and monitoring systems and tools.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory guidance to operational practices and business initiatives.
• A credit check and criminal background check are required.

The incumbent must be able to review information presented on computer screens and in printed materials and must be able to operate a computer and other standard office equipment as required to perform the essential functions of the role.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $126,000 to $189,000 annually, with a midpoint of $157,500. Final compensation will be based on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, skills, and internal equity considerations.
