Job Description

The Role

We're hiring our first Head of Product to own product strategy and execution across Obin's platform. This is a builder's role: you'll be deeply hands-on — partnering with engineering to ship AI-driven workflows, working directly with our domain SME network to translate institutional-finance expertise into product logic, and engaging PE, insurance, and private-credit customers to ensure what we build actually gets adopted in production, regulated environments. As we grow, you'll build and lead the product organization.

What You'll Do

- Own product strategy and roadmap for Obin's platform, connecting a compelling, well-founded strategy to company-level growth — not just a bucketed list of feature requests.
- Go deep with customers (PE operations teams, insurance claims/carrier ops, private-credit fund administrators) to build a first-hand, evidence-backed understanding of their workflows, pain points, and what "good" looks like — beyond what's asked for in sales calls.
- Partner closely with Engineering** on technical trade-offs inherent to an AI-native product: model selection and evaluation, human-in-the-loop design, data/reference-data architecture, and where automation should (and shouldn't) replace expert judgment.
- Translate domain SME expertise into product**, working with Obin's network of senior asset-servicing, claims, and valuation specialists to encode their judgment into configuration, workflows, and baseline solutions.
- Operationalize strategy into shippable increments**, setting objectives that cascade to the team level, running a tight build-measure-learn loop, and adapting the roadmap as you learn — without losing coherence across the platform.
- Build and lead the product function** as Obin scales — hire, coach, and develop product managers; stand up the product operating model appropriate to our stage (not a big-company process overlay on a startup team).
- Operate as a business leader**, not just a product manager: understand our unit economics, what drives revenue and margin in our segments, and how product decisions affect them; represent product in front of customers, investors, and the leadership team.

Must-Haves

- 10+ years in product management, including 3+ years directly managing PMs**, with a track record of owning and shipping products that customers demonstrably love (not just shipped — adopted, renewed, expanded).
- Deep domain fluency in at least one of: private equity/asset-management operations, insurance (P&C) claims, or private credit/fund administration** — enough to challenge and validate SME input, not just relay it.
- Genuine technical fluency**: comfortable driving trade-offs on AI/ML-driven products, partners with engineering as a peer rather than an "arms-length" requester, and can break down ambiguous technical challenges into scoped problems. (Prior technical degree, hands-on coding experience, or a track record building technically demanding products is a strong signal here.)
- Proven ability to build and communicate strategy that changes what the company does** — not a retrospective narrative fitted to a roadmap that would have happened anyway.
- 0-to-1 or 1-to-n product-building experience** at a startup or a new business line inside a larger company, comfortable with ambiguity and a small team.
- Direct customer-facing experience** with enterprise/institutional buyers — able to run discovery, negotiate scope, and hold a credible product conversation with sophisticated operations and technology counterparts at PE firms, insurers, or credit funds.
- Hands-on, player-coach orientation**: at this stage, you will personally write specs, run discovery calls, and dig into edge cases — not solely manage a team that does.

Good-to-Haves

- Experience at an AI-native or AI-heavy startup, especially building products involving LLMs, agentic workflows, or human-in-the-loop automation.
- Prior experience working with or managing a distributed/offshore domain-expert or SME network (vs. a purely engineering-only team).
- Experience scaling a product organization from a first hire to a multi-PM team, including hiring and developing PM talent who went on to succeed elsewhere.
- CFA, FRM, or other financial-services credential, or direct prior operating experience inside a PE firm, insurance carrier, or credit fund.
- Track record of operating close to the C-suite (as a direct report to a CEO/President, or representing the entire product function to the board/investors).
- Experience with regulated or compliance-sensitive enterprise software, where auditability and controls are first-class product requirements.
- Network within institutional finance operations, technology, or the AI-in-financial-services ecosystem.
