Job Description
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children. This position helps implement daily activities, ensures classroom safety and cleanliness, and builds positive relationships with children, families, and staff. The Assistant Teacher works under the guidance of the Lead Teacher and Childcare Center Manager.

- Classroom Support
- Assists the Lead Teacher with planning and implementing daily classroom activities.
- Provides supervision and guidance to children during routines, activities, and transitions.
- Supports a positive classroom environment that encourages learning and development.
- Child Care & Supervision
- Ensures the health, safety, and well-being of all children in care.
- Helps maintain required staff-to-child ratios at all times.
- Assists children with daily routines including meals, rest, hygiene, and outdoor play.
- Health, Safety, & Compliance
- Follows all DHS Licensing, CACFP, and agency policies.
- Maintains accurate attendance, meal counts, and classroom documentation as assigned.
- Assists with cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing classroom materials and equipment.
- Family Engagement
- Greets families daily and communicates respectfully with parents and guardians.
- Supports family involvement activities and events as directed by the Lead Teacher or Center Manager.
- Professionalism & Training
- Completes all required DHS trainings, including orientation, CPR/First Aid, safe sleep (if applicable), and annual professional development hours.
- Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
- Maintains confidentiality of child, family, and staff information.
- Other Duties
- Assists with classroom coverage as needed across the center.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Center Manager.
- Required: High School Diploma or GED.
- Preferred: CDA, AA, or BA/BS in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Experience working with young children in a group setting preferred.
