Description:
Supervision of children participating in the afterschool program with attention to all of the following: program activities, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character, and skill development. Counselors will at all times be under the direct supervision and guidance of the Assistant Director of Youth Programming or another professional designee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attends all assigned training meetings and staff trainings.
- Arrives on time and is prepared to begin assigned responsibilities.
- Observes and learns afterschool program procedures through working with experienced counselors and program staff.
- Acts as a positive role model for children.
- Appropriately interacts with children and actively participates in activities to enhance their afterschool experience.
- Assists in maintaining a safe environment for children and follows all supervision and safety procedures.
- Sets a good example for staff and children in all areas, including cleanliness, clean-up, rules, cooperation, and sportsmanship.
- Cleans assigned areas and assists with maintaining organized and welcoming program spaces.
- Participates in all program-wide special events, activities, and events as assigned.
- Demonstrates a cooperative and professional attitude and flexibility in response to program needs and responsibilities.
- Provides support to lead staff and other counselors whenever necessary or possible.
- Is attentive to the social and emotional adjustment of each child.
- Promotes and encourages child participation in all appropriate activities.
- Exhibits personal habits, health, dress, speech, and relationships with other staff that serve as a positive role model for children.
Qualifications:
Experience: Must participate in and successfully counselor orientation and/or training prior to working with children. Must exhibit emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity. Experience working with school-age children in an afterschool or group setting is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work as a team member with other counselors and staff members.
- Experience working with children in a group or afterschool setting.
- Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and willing to learn.
- Ability to actively engage children in age-appropriate activities and support their social, emotional, and academic development.
Schedule: Part-Time, up to 20 Hours per week
Work Arrangement: Monday-Friday (onsite)
Compensation: $17.00 per hour
