Job Description

STAFF SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Jani-King International | Addison, TX
Own the Architecture. Set the Standard. Ship with AI.
Jani-King International is the global leader in commercial cleaning franchising, with over 6,500 franchisees and 120 regional offices worldwide. For more than 55 years, we've partnered with top organizations across healthcare, education, hospitality, stadiums, government, retail, and more — delivering professional cleaning services and unmatched customer satisfaction.

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Engineering team at our corporate headquarters in Addison, TX. This is the senior individual-contributor engineer on Jani-King's software team and the owner of its engineering quality bar — setting the standard for how code is designed, reviewed, tested, and shipped, and raising the output of the whole team through architecture, review, and mentorship.
Position Summary
Jani-King's engineering team builds and operates a proprietary franchise accounting platform — a React, .NET, and SQL Server system hosted in AWS — that manages billing, payments, settlements, and period-end accounting for franchise owners and regional offices across the country. Correctness matters: the platform computes money owed to and from franchise owners every month, and its data feeds reporting, field operations, and a growing set of internal applications that help our sales teams win and serve customers.

This is a hands-on role, but “hands-on” no longer means typing out programs line by line. Our team builds with AI coding agents as the primary means of production. Engineers scope work into precise, well-bounded units, dispatch those units to agents that run in parallel, put the results through several rounds of automated review, and then apply expert human judgment to what comes back.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Standards & Code Review
• Own the code review standard across all engineering repositories, and serve as final human reviewer on changes to financial calculation, data migration, and authorization code.
• Design the review pipeline itself: what automated and agentic review checks, and what remains reserved for human judgment.
• Define and document coding conventions, testing expectations, and the team's Definition of Done for both employees and contractors.

Architecture & Technical Direction
• Own the technical architecture of the platform and its satellite applications: service boundaries, data model evolution, and cloud deployment model.
• Lead design for high-consequence workstreams such as historical data migration, payment processing, and CRM/banking integrations.
• Write and review architecture decision records, connecting trade-offs to business impact.

Team Leverage & Contractor Direction
• Provide day-to-day technical direction to contract developers, defining scope and acceptance criteria.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, design review, and structured feedback.
• Partner with product managers and database maintainers on scoping and schema decisions.

Product Development & Lifecycle Ownership
• Participate in scoping from the start, and personally build high-leverage features that establish patterns others will follow.
• Define observability as part of design, and participate in the engineering on-call rotation.
• Maintain a current, honest read on system and team health.

Agentic Development & Work Orchestration
• Decompose features into independently executable units of work and dispatch them to a fleet of coding agents running in parallel.
• Own the context agents work from: repository conventions, architectural rules, and domain documentation.
• Run multi-round agentic review before human review, and measure the loop to continuously improve how work is scoped.
What We're Looking For
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years as the senior-most or lead engineer on a production system with financial or operational consequences
• Demonstrated ownership of code review standards for a team, including experience holding contractors or vendors to those standards
• Current, demonstrable mastery of agent-driven software development in Cursor or a comparable agentic IDE
• Fluency with a modern issue tracker such as Linear, and habitual use of a frontier AI assistant such as Claude
• Deep proficiency in C#/.NET, and strong proficiency in TypeScript and React
• Strong SQL Server skills: schema design, query performance, and data integrity under concurrent load
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs; CRM, payment, or banking integration experience preferred
• Experience deploying and operating applications in AWS, including CI/CD and production observability (Datadog or comparable)
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and demonstrated effectiveness in ambiguous situations
• Must be able to pass a background screen
Why You'll Love Working Here
💰 Compensation That Reflects the Scope
$150,000 – $170,000/year, based on experience
You Own the Whole Thing: This is not a seat on a 400-person engineering org — you're the senior-most engineer on a small team, and the architecture, quality bar, and technical direction are yours to set and defend.
Direct Access to the CTO: You report to and work daily with a hands-on, technical CTO. Decisions get made in a conversation, not a committee.
Consequential, Visible Work: The platform you own is replacing decades-old legacy systems and becoming the data backbone for how the company bills, pays, sells, and operates.
Modern Toolchain: Work daily with Cursor, Claude, Linear, Notion, Datadog, and GitHub — the working environment many engineers wish they were allowed to use.
Location and Environment
This position is based at Jani-King International's Corporate Headquarters:
16885 Dallas Pkwy
Addison, TX 75001
This is a full-time, on-site role, Monday through Friday during core business hours, with flexibility for release windows and production incidents. You'll work directly with technology leadership, product management, the engineering team, accounting, and sales.

Travel is minimal, with occasional visits to regional offices for rollout events or user research.
Apply Today — Build What Matters
If you think about software as a whole lifecycle — not just a series of pull requests — and you're ready to own architecture, quality, and technical direction for a platform that moves real money every month, we want to hear from you.

“At Jani-King, we don't just build careers — we build opportunity.”
