Job Description

Senior Software Engineer — Microsoft Copilot Engineer
Location: Remote Reports to: Engineering / Delivery Lead Type: Full-time, HatchWorks AI
About the Role
HatchWorks AI builds AI-powered products and transformation solutions for clients, and Microsoft Copilot Studio is a growing part of that stack. We're looking for a senior engineer who can design, build, and ship production-grade custom copilots and agents for enterprise clients — from scoping the use case through deployment and handoff.

This is a hands-on, client-facing delivery role. You'll be the technical owner on Copilot Studio engagements: translating a client's business problem into a working, governed, enterprise-ready copilot.
What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and deploy custom copilots and AI agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio and the Microsoft 365 Copilot extensibility framework.
  • Build and maintain Power Platform solutions (Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse) that integrate with Copilot Studio agents.
  • Integrate copilots with Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Search, and related Azure AI services for grounding, retrieval, and orchestration.
  • Develop custom connectors, plugins, and APIs to connect copilots to client systems (CRM, ERP, SharePoint, internal databases).
  • Implement authentication, security, and governance controls (Entra ID, DLP policies) for enterprise Copilot deployments.
  • Work directly with client stakeholders to scope requirements and present technical solutions.
  • Write clean, tested, production-grade code (C#, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Python, depending on the engagement).
  • Tune copilot performance — prompt design, topic/trigger structure, conversation flow.
  • Document architecture and configuration for client handoff.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including recent hands-on work building production copilots/agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio (or Power Virtual Agents).
  • Experience with Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse) and Microsoft 365 extensibility (Teams apps, Graph API).
  • Working knowledge of Azure OpenAI Service, prompt engineering, and RAG-style grounding patterns.
  • Proficiency in at least one of: C#/.NET, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Python.
  • Experience integrating enterprise systems via REST APIs, custom connectors, or Dataverse.
  • Understanding of enterprise security/governance for AI deployments (Entra ID, conditional access, DLP).
  • Strong client-facing communication — comfortable scoping and presenting technical solutions directly to client stakeholders.
  • Prior consulting, agency, or professional-services delivery experience.
Nice to Have
  • Microsoft certifications (PL-600, PL-400, AI-102, or equivalent).
  • Experience with other conversational AI platforms (Azure Bot Framework, Dialogflow) for comparison/migration context.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or the broader Azure data stack.
