Regional Safety Manager (West Division)
Full - Time Salary
Location: Coachella, CA / Palm Desert, CA / Indio, CA / Rancho Murieta
Position type and expected hours of work: This is a full-time position, and hours and days of work and Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Summary:
The Regional Safety Manager (RSM) is responsible for ensuring the company complies with all USDOT/FMCSA/OSHA regulations in their assigned region. The position will be responsible for accident and injury investigations that involve company vehicles and personnel. The position will also report and coordinate all related insurance claims. The Regional Safety Manager is responsible for identifying potential claims exposure for the company and reporting such to the leadership team.
The RSM will meet and develop relationships with key safety employees of strategic customers as well as enforcement and regulatory agencies.
The position is based at the company location in Coachella CA, and reports to the Senior Director of Safety and Regulatory Compliance
Essential functions:
- Ensure required random testing requirements are being met, order post-accident screen as needed
- Responsible for initial reporting of insurance claims, including property, liability, and workers compensation claims.
- Ensure company safety programs and policies are being followed
- Lead Accident Review Committee Meetings
- Monitor Samsara cameras footage, review harsh events, communicate with operations managers.
- Lead/attend/schedule safety meetings in assigned regions, conduct onsite inspection audits on equipment and working locations.
- Monitor FMCSA/USDOT carrier scores and reporting. Keep company updated on current regulations.
- Responsible for accident investigation that involves company equipment, personnel and/or property; notify applicable operations managers of all incidents in addition to the COO and VP, SAP; retrieve police reports and work with adjusters to ensure accurate appraisals and facilitate repairs.
- Assist in due diligence on the safety aspect of new acquisitions
- Conduct regular site visits to evaluate safety performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Work with manager to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress; develop strong working relationships with Area, Regional and General Managers in assigned region.
Competency: Excellent verbal, written, presentation, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills, competent and experience in working with USDOT/OSHA rules and requirements, critical thinking, separate facts from assumptions to determine relevant facts in the decision-making process, be honest, responsible and trustworthy with confidential information, represent the company in a professional and ethical manner, excellent driving record.
Work environment: This position requires the ability to function in an office environment as well as the company’s industrial environment including outdoor weather conditions.
Physical demands: The position primarily requires sitting, typing and viewing a computer. Other less frequent physical demands include bending and lifting.
Travel: Moderate travel may be expected for this position
Preferred education and experience: A four-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management, Construction Management, Business Management, Emergency Management or equivalent with a minimum of two years of increasing experience in the transportation or safety field and an understanding of DOT Regulations is preferred.
