DUTIES
The University and Employment Preparation Department, in the Faculty of Education and Social Work, invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Bipartite Assistant Teaching Professor. University preparation provides an opportunity for students to obtain pre-university prerequisites for many programs at TRU and elsewhere and/or obtain an Adult Graduation Diploma. The successful candidate will teach Adult Basic Education (ABE) physics courses and provide service to the institution.
It is expected that the successful candidate will also:
• implement the use of sound teaching methods in alignment with clear and established learning objectives in lectures and labs
• engage in scholarly teaching
• create quality, inclusive, and safe learning environments
• maintain proper academic records
• ensure courses are articulated with the BC ABE Science Articulation Committee
• contribute to a positive workplace culture
• engage in service to the department, faculty, TRU and the wider community
• Master’s degree in a relevant field required
• At least one degree in science (with a minor or major in physics) or a closely related discipline required
• Teaching Certificate or Instructor’s Diploma or 5 years teaching experience in ABE required
• Demonstrated evidence of scholarly teaching required
• Experience teaching in a laboratory setting required
• Experience teaching students whose educational, social and economic backgrounds are diverse, and for whom previous school experience may have been challenging required
• Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) preferred
• Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) preferred
• Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) preferred
