Position Title:

Senior Collection Officer

Reports To:

Collections Department Manager

Basic Function:

• May serve as lead in the absence of Department Manager.
• This position is accountable for initiating, pursuing, and ensuring the prompt collection of direct and indirect loans.
• The incumbent must maintain control over delinquency with respect to a consistent percentage of 90 and above on past due accounts.
• This position is responsible for the training of new Collections employees, as well as mentoring and possibly retraining of incumbents within the department.

Responsibilities:

• Begins collection process on all accounts listed on 31-to-60-day delinquent report.
• Works within general guidelines in collection activities, exercising judgment, experience and objectives established by the collection manager to determine the effective approach and follow-up action.
• Mentor assigned Collection Officer in all aspects of collection activities.
• Communicates with borrower(s) in attempting to obtain late payments using various means of contact such as telephone, letters, and text.
• Continues working delinquent loans 61 days or more delinquent.
• Knowledge of all job duties within the department.
• Contacts members and/or insurance company regarding insurance problems.
• Sends notice of default and intent to accelerate letter when problem is not resolved.
• Prepares loans for repossession when necessary.
• Follows up on disability insurance, credit life, and GAP claims for member.
• Assists with questions regarding credit card delinquencies, overdrawn accounts, and payments.
• Assists members with a charged off loan, credit card, or delinquent account which is not 30 days past due.
• Makes court appearances as a representative of the Credit Union.
• Answers all calls for skip tracing.
• Adheres to all Red River Employees Federal Credit Union policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Three or more years of experience in collection of delinquent accounts for a financial institution, or equivalent experience in a collection department.
• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Competent computer skills and use of standard office equipment.
• A patient yet firm demeanor.
• Ability to meet, speak, and deal effectively with people, being professional always.
• Must maintain a neat and professional appearance.
• While the following list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented, identified physical requirements include the ability to operate normal office equipment and some lifting, not to exceed 25 pounds.
