Job Description

Position Title: Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist

Location: Augusta, Georgia

Description: HTI is recruiting an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist for an international power transformer manufacturing company at their plant in the Augusta, GA area. This company offers great benefits and opportunities for growth!

Salary range: $70,000 – $90,000 / year, depending on experience and education
Location: Waynesboro, GA
Working hours: Mon-Fri from 6:30am - 3:00pm
Status: Onsite, full-time, direct hire position

Summary:
The EHS Specialist is a hands-on leader with a primary focus on executing the plant’s EHS management systems, ensuring compliance with GA Department of Health, EPA, OSHA, and applicable industry regulations and standards. This team member will serve as a role model of EHS and Process Safety Management (PSM) excellence through participation in and compliance with policies, management systems, procedures, and training.

Requirements:
  • 4+ years of experience in an Environmental Health & Safety role within the manufacturing industry, handling the job duties listed below
  • A demonstrated track record of EHS excellence and safety leadership skills
  • High school diploma or GED; EHS-related college degree is preferred
  • Must be local to the greater Augusta, GA area and able to commute to the Waynesboro location
  • Strong leadership, communication, and training development/delivery skills
  • Commitment to work towards technical and professional EHS certifications
  • Ability to lead by example; self-motivated with a high degree of honesty and integrity

Job Duties:
  • Adhere to all plant safety requirements and policies. Promote a positive safety culture, leading by example.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate EHS related risk (e.g. Spot checks, PSSR, MOC, Risk matrix, and JSA).
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures in accordance with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Update EHS-related policies, procedures, and associated training documentation and materials.
  • Develop and deliver EHS, PSM, Emergency Response (ER), and Security training.
  • Maintain training LMS, training matrix, and E-zone.
  • Review and execute EHS department PMs and projects that require external resources for installation or inspection. Execution includes managing contractors, PO’s and gaining approvals. (Examples include: First aid station, safety shower evaluation, elevated work/anchor points, fixed/portable ladder evaluations, elevated work equipment and gas monitoring equipment maintenance).
  • Develop, capture and classify leading and lagging indicators.
  • Lead, review, conduct, document, track, communicate, and close out incident investigations.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions. Actively lead the site safety committee and subcommittees.
  • Actively lead and train Emergency Response Team members in EOC, ER/Security Drills, headcount system, training programs, ER equipment, and interfacing with local ER agencies.
  • Maintain the approved PPE list, PPE matrix/risk assessment, and PPE evaluations.
  • Promote the health of employees through effective case management, IH assessments, and providing first-aid/guidance to employees on injury care.
  • Collaborate with HR to manage workers compensation cases, reporting and documentation.
  • Develop, update and execute industrial hygiene plan and risk assessment; conduct IH sampling.
  • Issue safe work permits (e.g. Take 5, confined space, first break, hot work).
  • Achieve and maintain applicable personal EHS certifications. (Examples include: First Aid/CPR/AED, Forklift Trainer, Hazmat Specialist/Trainer, Wastewater Operator, DOT Shipper, Hazmat Shipper, and Certified Safety Technician).
  • Maintain assigned permits, reports, and/or regulatory licenses, including OSHA 300 logs, security reports, radio license, and state/EPA LQG ID.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
