Data Engineer (IE / Ops Research)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Engineer (IE / Operations Research) based in the United States (Remote).

This role focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing advanced data solutions that support mission-critical operational decision-making. The successful candidate will combine data engineering expertise with industrial engineering and operations research methodologies to build scalable pipelines, applications, workflows, and analytics capabilities. You will work with complex operational datasets, transforming information into actionable insights that improve efficiency, readiness, and modernization efforts. The role offers the opportunity to collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leaders in a highly analytical environment. You will contribute to digital transformation initiatives by leveraging automation, predictive analytics, simulation models, and data-driven strategies. This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy solving complex problems at the intersection of technology, operations, and strategic decision support.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, build, maintain, and enhance data pipelines, applications, workflows, and governance capabilities within advanced data platforms.
  • Develop and configure data pipelines, applications, user interfaces, workflows, and automations using platform-based tools such as code repositories, pipeline builders, and application development environments.
  • Collect, transform, clean, validate, and integrate data from multiple sources, including ERP, maintenance, operational, and supply chain systems.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve data quality and pipeline performance issues while recommending solutions to improve reliability and accuracy.
  • Develop governance, monitoring, and operational health applications to support platform performance, compliance, and visibility.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements, understand business challenges, and deliver tailored data solutions.
  • Apply industrial engineering and operations research techniques, including process mapping, Lean/Six Sigma methods, time studies, constraints analysis, and capacity modeling, to improve operational performance.
  • Conduct throughput, bottleneck, and capacity analyses across maintenance, production, logistics, and supply chain environments to support strategic investment decisions.
  • Integrate operational data into simulation models to enable forecasting, scheduling optimization, and scenario-based analysis.
  • Design and evaluate “what-if” scenarios with cross-functional teams to support planning, modernization, and infrastructure decisions.
  • Create clear visualizations, briefings, and recommendations to communicate insights and support leadership decision-making.
  • Support advanced analytics initiatives, including predictive modeling and digital engineering approaches, to improve efficiency and operational outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders to understand mission objectives and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposal responses, technical documentation, capability presentations, and client-facing materials.
Requirements:
  • Active and maintained Secret-level federal or DoD security clearance required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; STEM background preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in data engineering and/or database management.
  • Experience developing data pipelines, workflows, applications, user interfaces, or automation solutions within modern data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with platform-based development environments, including code repositories, pipeline builders, application tools, and operational monitoring capabilities.
  • Strong programming or scripting experience, with Python or PySpark preferred.
  • Ability to identify data integrity issues, troubleshoot pipeline performance challenges, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of relational database concepts, structures, and data management practices.
  • Understanding of platform governance, observability, and operational monitoring principles.
  • Experience applying industrial engineering, operations research, process optimization, or analytics methodologies is highly valued.
  • Ability to support remote, hybrid, and occasional on-site project work, including projects in the DC metro area.
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and ability to collaborate with diverse technical and operational teams.
  • Preferred: 6+ years of experience across data engineering, industrial engineering, and/or operations research disciplines.
