This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Autonomous Systems Engineer based in United States.

The Autonomous Systems Engineer will design, develop, and integrate advanced software solutions that enable intelligent robotic platforms to operate safely and efficiently. This role covers the full robotics technology stack, including perception, localization, motion planning, control systems, and real-time software development. The ideal candidate will contribute to building reliable autonomous systems by combining strong engineering practices with expertise in robotics frameworks and sensor technologies. This position offers the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and influence the future of autonomous technology. The successful candidate will work across simulation, hardware integration, and field testing environments to deliver production-ready robotic solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone passionate about creating scalable, intelligent, and dependable autonomous systems.

Accountabilities:

The Autonomous Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing and optimizing robotics software solutions, integrating hardware and software components, and ensuring reliable performance of autonomous platforms.

  • Develop robotics software using C++ and Python with a focus on real-time performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Design and integrate sensor processing pipelines using cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and other robotic sensors.
  • Implement perception, localization, mapping, SLAM, and sensor fusion algorithms to support accurate environmental understanding and state estimation.
  • Develop motion planning, trajectory generation, and control algorithms that enable safe and predictable robotic behavior.
  • Build behavioral systems using state machines, behavior trees, task planners, or similar frameworks.
  • Integrate ROS and ROS 2 frameworks with custom hardware, embedded systems, and robotic platforms.
  • Implement safety-critical software patterns including fault detection, watchdog systems, and safe-stop mechanisms.
  • Build and maintain simulation environments using tools such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or similar platforms for development and testing.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, machine learning, and product teams to define technical solutions and deliver integrated systems.
  • Design and execute field tests, collect operational data, and analyze results to improve system performance.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, design specifications, operational procedures, and engineering guides.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
  • Evaluate emerging robotics technologies and frameworks, recommending solutions based on technical maturity, performance, and business value.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have strong robotics software engineering experience, expertise in autonomous systems development, and the ability to work effectively across hardware and software domains.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in robotics software engineering or autonomous systems development.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS 2 in production robotics projects.
  • Experience with one or more robotics domains including perception, localization, motion planning, or control systems.
  • Strong understanding of sensor fusion techniques, including Kalman filters, particle filters, or similar approaches.
  • Experience with simulation environments such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong debugging skills for real-time, distributed, and concurrent software systems.
  • Experience integrating software with robotic hardware and supporting field testing activities.
  • Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and translate complex requirements into reliable solutions.
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, drones, industrial automation, or safety-critical systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ML-based perception pipelines, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or open-source robotics contributions is a plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual salary range of $100,000–$150,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Full-time, direct W2 employment opportunity.
  • Fully remote work environment within the United States.
  • Opportunity to work on advanced robotics and autonomous technology projects.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge robotics frameworks, simulation tools, and AI-driven technologies.
  • Career growth opportunities within a technology-focused environment.
  • Collaboration with experienced engineers across software, hardware, and artificial intelligence domains.
  • Opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions that impact the future of autonomous systems.
