Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a reporter to cover big banks on Wall Street, a marquee role at the core of our newsroom.

You would anchor our coverage of Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, with a mandate to grasp onto the broader world of investment banking and trading and weigh in on major developments across the financial world.

Your task would be to break news and build a pipeline of memorable features, setting the agenda for Wall Street and the Journal. You'll chronicle the bets banks are making, their wins and losses and the role they are playing in important business and financial storylines. You'll have the voice and reporting chops to bring to life the cultures and subcultures inside these firms.

For an experienced and creative reporter, this represents an opportunity to tap your sourcing and be a major player in our coverage of the AI boom, the advancement of private credit, the changing dynamics of trading and the power corridors in New York, Washington and beyond.

You will:
  • Build sourcing across the finance world with the aim of breaking major news in banking.
  • Develop rich features that explain complex Wall Street developments, reveal new details and entertain readers.
  • Write breaking news stories with speed, clarity and accuracy.
  • Experiment with various formats and platforms, from graphics to videos.

You have:
  • At least 5 years of experience as a financial or business journalist.
  • A proven ability to develop sourcing inside and around organizations that are difficult to penetrate.
  • A solid working knowledge of banking and Wall Street.
  • Creative energy and a passion to find good stories.
  • A desire and ability to collaborate with others in adjacent coverage areas.

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining how your skills, experience and interests align with the requirements of the role by November 20. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and we encourage early submission as the position may be filled before the deadline.
