Job Description
The Residential Manager is responsible for the overall operation, supervision, and quality of services provided at two residential homes supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and/or autism. This position ensures a safe, supportive, and person-centered environment that promotes well-being, independence, dignity, and personal growth for the individuals served.
The Residential Manager provides direct supervision to Lead Staff and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), oversees daily operations, ensures regulatory compliance, manages staffing and scheduling, and serves as a role model for professional conduct and service excellence. This position is part of the staffing ratio and actively participates in the daily life and activities of the homes.
This role requires 24/7 on-call availability for emergencies and operational support.
Key ResponsibilitiesStaff Leadership & Supervision- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for Lead Staff and Direct Support Professionals.
- Conduct regular supervision meetings, staff development sessions, and performance evaluations.
- Mentor employees and provide ongoing training to ensure quality service delivery.
- Interview, evaluate, and recommend candidates for DSP positions.
- Manage employee schedules, time-off requests, callouts, and staffing coverage.
- Monitor employee attendance and timekeeping in the payroll management system.
- Maintain staffing levels while minimizing overtime whenever possible.
- Model appropriate workplace behavior, professionalism, and interactions with individuals served, families, and other professionals.
- Ensure implementation of Individual Support Plans (ISPs), treatment plans, and behavioral support strategies.
- Oversee daily operations of assigned residential sites to ensure high-quality care and support.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, care planning meetings, and individual reviews.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and crisis situations, including documentation and reporting requirements.
- Report medical concerns promptly to leadership and nursing staff.
- Coordinate and support monthly recreational, social, and community activities for individuals served.
- Conduct and maintain competency in assessments and evaluations related to individual support needs.
- Ensure all program documentation is completed accurately and on time, including:
- Daily logs
- Medication administration records
- Incident reports
- Progress notes
- Vehicle logs
- Inventories
- Assessments
- Manage, monitor, and reconcile site and consumer-related expenditures.
- Oversee consumer funds and petty cash in accordance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure homes are prepared for state licensing reviews, audits, and inspections.
- Maintain organized consumer records and regulatory documentation.
- Monitor site compliance with agency policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Ensure residential homes provide a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment.
- Monitor the condition, maintenance, and cleanliness of homes and agency vehicles.
- Report repair needs, safety concerns, and maintenance issues to leadership.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing requirements.
- Serve as the primary on-call manager for assigned residences.
- Remain accessible by phone during scheduled shifts and on-call assignments.
- Respond to emergencies and critical staffing needs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5–6 years of experience working with adults with:
- Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
- Behavioral Health diagnoses
- Substance Use Recovery Programs
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of regulations, policies, and best practices related to residential services and supports.
- Ability to lead, develop, and motivate staff.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience managing documentation, compliance requirements, and residential operations.
- Basic computer proficiency, including:
- Electronic documentation systems
- Payroll/timekeeping systems
- Internet-based applications
- Valid driver's license required.
- Reliable personal vehicle with state-required liability insurance.
- Ability to pass all required background screenings, including FBI clearance, if applicable.
- Must obtain and maintain Medication Administration Certification.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities.
The Residential Manager works directly within residential settings and is actively engaged in supporting individuals and staff. The role requires frequent interaction with individuals served, staff members, families, healthcare providers, and community partners. The position involves both administrative responsibilities and direct operational support within the homes.
