This is a high-impact engineering leadership opportunity at a healthcare startup focused on improving support for patients and their families.
As VP of Engineering, you will define the technical strategy and roadmap while initially remaining deeply involved in architecture and hands-on development.
You will work directly with the CEO and cross-functional leaders to identify where technology and AI can create meaningful operational leverage.
The role spans foundational systems, patient navigation tools, communications, research, and healthcare data processing.
As the organization grows, you will build and lead the engineering function, establishing the infrastructure, team, and practices needed to scale.

• Partner with the CEO and functional leaders to define the technical strategy, priorities, and engineering roadmap.
• Identify high-impact opportunities to apply technology and AI to improve operational efficiency and support more patients at scale.
• Design and build foundational technology systems, particularly during the early stages of the role.
• Lead the development of tools supporting patient navigation, communications, research, and healthcare data processing.
• Translate complex business and operational challenges into scalable technical solutions.
• Establish engineering infrastructure, development practices, and technical processes that support future growth.
• Lead and develop the engineering function, including growing the team and establishing an effective organizational structure.
• Balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical execution, architecture, and problem-solving.
• Evaluate opportunities to build, buy, automate, or redesign technology based on business needs and impact.

Requirements:

• Proven engineering leadership experience, ideally as a VP of Engineering, Head of Engineering, or similar leader within a health technology environment.
• Strong experience building and scaling healthcare technology, with a deep understanding of HIPAA, security, privacy, and sensitive health data requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to take complex technical challenges from strategy and architecture through hands-on implementation.
• Experience building technology for tech-enabled services or operationally complex businesses.
• Strong knowledge of modern data infrastructure and cloud-based systems.
• Familiarity with Python and SQL.
• Practical experience applying AI to automate backend workflows, augment human operations, and develop real-world products.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently, navigate ambiguity, and move between strategic planning and hands-on development.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business functions.
• Experience with medical claims, prior authorization, or other complex healthcare data is strongly preferred.
