About the Role:

The Mechanic role within the Utilities industry is critical to ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment essential for utility services. This position focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, braking systems, fuel systems, and hydraulic components to maximize equipment uptime and safety. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting field operations by ensuring that all diesel trucks and related machinery are in optimal working condition. This role requires a thorough understanding of diesel mechanics and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues efficiently. Ultimately, the Mechanic contributes to the overall effectiveness and safety of utility service delivery by maintaining high standards of mechanical integrity and performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a diesel mechanic, specifically with diesel trucks and heavy equipment.
• Strong knowledge of brakes, diesel engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, and alternators.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate utility vehicles safely.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification from a recognized diesel mechanic training program or ASE certification.
• Experience working within the utilities or heavy equipment industry.
• Familiarity with computerized diagnostic tools and maintenance management software.
• Ability to work flexible hours including emergency call-outs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel trucks and utility vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
• Diagnose mechanical problems related to brakes, diesel engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, and alternators using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Repair or replace defective parts such as gaskets, braking components, and fuel system elements to restore vehicle functionality.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and labor hours.
• Collaborate with the operations team to schedule maintenance activities minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Skills:

The required skills such as expertise in brakes, diesel engines, and fuel systems are applied daily to diagnose and repair mechanical issues, ensuring vehicles and equipment operate safely and efficiently.
