Principal Backend Architect / Engineer (C#/.NET, Azure) in Brazil at Jobgether

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Backend Architect / Engineer (C#/.NET, Azure) based in Brazil.

This is a senior, hands-on architecture role focused on shaping the backend foundation of multiple products and guiding the evolution of a large-scale platform. You will define server-side architecture while leading the incremental transformation of a monolith into well-bounded services. The role combines deep C#/.NET and Azure expertise with event-driven architecture, API design, data access, and DevOps practices. You will establish engineering standards, reusable platform capabilities, and robust service contracts. You will also champion the practical use of agentic AI tools in everyday software development and help raise the technical capabilities of the wider team. Working closely with architects and engineers, you will influence technical decisions while continuing to design, code, review, and build solutions yourself.

• Define backend architecture across products and lead the incremental decomposition and migration of the monolith into well-bounded services using safe, reversible engineering approaches.
• Establish and enforce backend engineering standards, shared libraries, service templates, API contracts, versioning practices, and backward compatibility principles.
• Design and guide event-driven architectures using Azure Service Bus, including delivery guarantees, retries, idempotency, failure handling, and poison-message management.
• Partner closely with the Data Architect on transactional boundaries, data-access models, query performance, and integrations with customers and external partners.
• Lead by example in the daily use of agentic AI development tools and help elevate the team's technical practices and capabilities.
• Create Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), conduct reviews of critical pull requests, mentor engineers, contribute to incident response, and participate in quarterly technical planning.

• 10+ years of backend development or software engineering experience, including several years in formal architecture or technical leadership roles.
• Deep expertise in C#/.NET with strong hands-on experience working with Azure, particularly Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, and Azure Data Factory.
• Practical experience with PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, and Snowflake, as well as CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Demonstrated experience incrementally migrating or decomposing monolithic applications, favoring safe and reversible steps over large-scale rewrites.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous messaging, event-driven systems, idempotency, dead-lettering, and robust API design.
• Daily, hands-on experience with agentic AI development tools, such as Claude, Claude Code, or similar technologies.
• Experience building with AI, including agents, reusable skills, MCP servers, and evaluation workflows.
• Strong hands-on engineering mindset: this is not a pure management or theoretical architecture position, and you should remain actively involved in coding and solution development.
• Strong technical communication, problem-solving, mentoring, and collaboration skills.
