Agency Description

Mentis provides bilingual professional mental health services to people in Napa County of every age and income level. We believe equipping our residents with the tools they need to live emotionally healthy, stable lives creates a community of enduring strength. Mentis’ Prevention & Early Intervention Division offers a variety of programs within Napa County schools and the community.

Position Summary

This position focuses on providing youth-related mental health and wellness programs at schools across Napa County. The Specialist serves as a Certified Wellness Coach (CWC) Level I or II, delivering one-on-one and small group support to students on school campuses. Additionally, this position supports the department's community programs and other programming as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Certified Wellness Coach - Wellness Coaching

  • Conduct one-on-one check-ins and small group sessions at assigned NVUSD school sites, covering topics including self-esteem, coping skills, and school success.
  • Work closely with each school's wellness teams to identify and refer students who need additional support to the proper school support personnel.
  • Provide non-clinical wellness promotion and education, screening, care coordination, and referral services to students in alignment with the CWC scope of practice.

Community Programs

  • Support bilingual wellness and support groups for older adults at the Mentis campus and local senior centers.
  • Attend outreach events on behalf of Mentis as schedule allows.

General Administrative

  • Support the Prevention team in the collection and organization of program data, both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Prevention Manager, Prevention team, and Mentis staff, including attending weekly Prevention team meetings and monthly staff meetings.

To Apply

Please submit a resume and cover letter to jobs@mentisnapa.org. In your cover letter, include documentation of CWC certification status (CWC-I, CWC-II, R-CWC I, or R-CWC II) or a statement describing how you meet the minimum requirements to begin working toward certification.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in a qualifying field such as Health & Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Addiction Studies, or completion of a HCAI-designated CWC education program.
  • Minimum field experience hours as required for the applicable certification level. See below for details.
  • Ability to work on-site at Mentis campus and assigned school site(s) for all 4 scheduled days per week.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between Mentis campus and assigned school site(s).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with school wellness teams, students, and community members.
  • Ability to collect and organize program data (quantitative and qualitative).

Preferred:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaking and writing proficiency.
  • Prior experience working with youth in school-based or community mental health settings.
  • Experience co-facilitating wellness or support groups.

Certification Levels and Requirements:

  • Certified Wellness Coach Level I (CWC-I): Requires an associate's degree or higher in a related field (e.g., Health & Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Addiction Studies, or a designated CWC education program) and 400 hours of supervised field experience.
  • Certified Wellness Coach Level II (CWC-II): Requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field and 800 hours of supervised field experience.

Registered CWC Status (Working Toward Full Certification): Applicants who do not yet hold full CWC certification may still qualify if they meet the minimum requirements to begin working as a Registered Certified Wellness Coach:

  • Registered CWC-I (R-CWC I): Holds an associate's degree (or higher) and has completed a minimum of 150 field experience hours. Must complete the remaining hours (up to 400 total) within one year of receiving R-CWC I status.
  • Registered CWC-II (R-CWC II): Holds a bachelor's degree (or higher) and has completed a minimum of 300 field experience hours. Must complete the remaining hours (up to 800 total) within one year of receiving R-CWC II status.

The "Registered" designation on an individual's certification informs employers that the person is still completing field experience requirements. Mentis will provide supervision and support to help the employee complete remaining field hours toward full certification.

Note: Degree must be from a HCAI-designated education program or in a qualifying field of study. Field experience must involve providing direct pre-clinical behavioral health services that align with the CWC scope of practice.
