JobSummary:
This position isresponsible for the structural design of steel and concrete structures relatedto marine terminals, industrial, bulk material handling, process,petrochemical, refinery and oil & gas facilities.
This includes marinedocks, foundations, retaining walls, structural steel platforms, bents andtowers, steel buildings as well as modification to existing structures anddeep/shallow foundation systems. Thisinvolves computer modeling of structures from conceptual engineering throughconstruction using software such as RISA , Staad, and/or SACS.
JobDuties and Responsibilities:
Design of pipe and tray supports;
Design of reinforced concrete paving, beams andcolumns and/or foundations;
Design of deep and/or shallow foundations;
Design of steel jacket for dock andmooring/berthing structures in water with piles;
Design of personnel walkway, truss or pipe,stairs, handrails and ladders;
Design of conveyor truss, gallery or deck trusstype with or without personnel walkway;
Design of conveyor bents and/or transfer towers;
Design of monorail beams and/or monopiles withlateral loading for energy absorption;
Design of lift eyes and size lift rigging;
Dock layout design;
Perform steel beam, column and/or connectioncalculations;
Perform wind, seismic load and/or mooringcalculations;
Perform in place, transportation (acceleration),vibration, lift and/or vortex shed analysis;
Perform pile soil interaction analysis;
Perform 2d space frame and 3d frame analysis;
Perform mooring analysis, individual mooringline and berthing analysis and specify mooring and/or berthing equipment;
Create geotechnical, hydrographic andtopographic scopes of work;
Assist with dock inspection and assessment,analysis dock inspection results, determine recommendations, and create reports;
Observe and record construction activities aswell as assist with review of construction documents and constructionsubmittals;
Industrial building inspection and assessment;
Stress-skin building design utilizing 3dmodeling;
Collect data and gather/log information anddocuments;
Facilitate or assist with project permitting toinclude applications and participate in project meetings with certifyingagencies;
Make notation during technical meetings anddevelop meeting minutes;
Attend project discussions/internal meetingswith other disciplines;
Participate in project meeting/communicationswith clients.
Qualifications(Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Requires BS degree in Civil Engineering;
For candidates with engineering degrees attainedoutside the U.S., the candidate must have attained an E.I.T. designation from aU.S. based state licensing board;
Requires five (5) to ten (10) yearsexperience in engineering design related to job duties and responsibilities;
Requires familiarity with total projectsystems to include mechanical, structural, civil and electrical components toallow considerations of those aspects into a project or design area;
Requires previous experience with RISA, Staad,and/or SACS;
Requires strong written and verbalcommunication skills;
Requires availability and ability to travel toclient sites and work overtime as needed based on project;
Requires the availability and ability to workon multiple projects simultaneously;
Requires the ability to interact with staff atall levels;
P.E. license preferred.
WorkingConditions:
Work is conducted in an office environment(Private or Semi-Private Office) and requires occasional travel to off-sitework locations;
Interaction with other team members as well assupervisor and client personnel;
May be required to travel out of town on aperiodic basis to obtaining project field data or attend project meetings;
Field duties may require outdoor work in aplant, facility or terminal environment which may include working in plant orshop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
Field duties require outdoor work in a plant orconstruction atmosphere;
Must be able to wear safety equipment asrequired by the safety department for personal protection;
May be at more than one job site in a day andmust be able to tolerate climate changes.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry twenty (20)pounds;
Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing orother communication capabilities which permits employee to communicateeffectively;
Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time;
Sufficient vision or other powers of observationwhich permits employee to conduct analysis and investigations;
Sufficient manual dexterity which permit theemployee to perform routine office duties;
Sufficient personal mobility and physicalreflexes to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-sitelocations.
