This role sits within a specialized reinsurance environment, providing high-impact legal support across complex prospective reinsurance transactions and regulatory matters. You will act as a trusted advisor to underwriting teams and senior leadership, helping structure, review, and negotiate key contractual arrangements that shape business outcomes. The position blends transactional legal work with regulatory analysis, governance oversight, and strategic advisory responsibilities. You will operate in a highly collaborative, remote-friendly environment supporting multiple U.S. legal entities within a global organization. The role offers significant exposure to insurance regulation, corporate governance, and cross-border reinsurance activity. It is ideal for a commercially minded attorney who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced, and intellectually rigorous settings.
- Review, draft, and negotiate legal documents related to prospective reinsurance transactions, including term sheets, contracts, and associated governance approvals.
- Provide legal guidance to business units and executive leadership on transactional, corporate, and regulatory matters impacting reinsurance operations.
- Support U.S. and international affiliates in reinsurance activities, ensuring compliance with applicable insurance laws and regulations.
- Monitor and analyze evolving federal and state legislation affecting the reinsurance and insurance industries, translating developments into actionable insights.
- Advise on interpretation and application of contractual terms, corporate governance documents, and internal policies.
- Partner with business teams to deliver practical, solution-oriented legal advice aligned with strategic and commercial objectives.
- Utilize modern legal technologies and AI tools to enhance efficiency and support legal workflows.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active California State Bar membership in good standing (required).
- 3–5 years of legal experience at a major law firm, ideally focused on reinsurance, financial transactions, corporate governance, or insurance regulatory law.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and contract interpretation skills with experience handling complex transactional matters.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong commercial mindset with the ability to assess legal risk and provide pragmatic, business-focused solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a remote or virtual work environment.
- High integrity, intellectual curiosity, and a proactive approach to learning new legal domains.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and familiarity with legal research platforms and emerging technologies.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship requirements.
- Competitive base salary range: $140,000 – $210,000, plus eligibility for annual incentive compensation.
