Senior Director, Governance and Risk

This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and operationally minded cybersecurity leader to shape and scale enterprise governance and risk programs within a mission-driven organization. In this role, you will oversee critical areas including security governance, vendor risk management, business continuity, security awareness, and technology risk oversight. You will work cross-functionally with legal, procurement, privacy, engineering, and business stakeholders to strengthen security posture while enabling organizational resilience and operational excellence. The position combines leadership, execution, and innovation, offering the chance to modernize governance processes through automation and AI-driven solutions. Accountabilities:
  • Lead and operationalize enterprise governance and risk programs across security policy, security awareness, business continuity, vendor risk management, and information security risk tracking.
  • Ensure governance frameworks, policies, and standards remain current, actionable, and effectively implemented across the organization.
  • Oversee the execution and effectiveness of security awareness initiatives, targeted training campaigns, and employee engagement programs.
  • Coordinate business continuity and disaster recovery governance activities, including business impact assessments, testing exercises, remediation planning, and recovery readiness.
  • Maintain and enhance the organization’s Information Security Risk Register, ensuring accurate risk identification, documentation, escalation, and remediation tracking.
  • Direct and optimize third-party/vendor risk management processes, including risk assessments, SOC 2 reviews, control evaluations, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives by leveraging automation, AI tools, and governance platforms to improve operational efficiency and scalability.
  • Establish KPIs and KRIs to monitor program effectiveness, identify gaps, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing governance and risk team while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Review and negotiate security requirements in procurement contracts, RFPs, and risk-related agreements.
Requirements:
  • 8–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) or Information Security Governance functions.
  • CRISC certification required; additional certifications such as CISSP or CISM are highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees are considered a strong advantage.
  • Deep practical expertise in security governance, policy management, security awareness, vendor risk management, business continuity, and risk remediation programs.
  • Strong understanding of industry frameworks and compliance standards such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, and PCI-DSS.
  • Proven experience driving operational improvements through automation, AI solutions, and scalable process design.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams, including Legal, Procurement, Privacy, Security, Engineering, and business leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex risks and controls clearly to executive and technical audiences.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience coaching teams, managing priorities, and delivering results in fast-paced environments.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent organizational, execution, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Passion for mission-driven work and enthusiasm for emerging technologies and AI-enabled solutions.
