Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Bor-Jig Grinder to support precision machining operations in a high-performance manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for grinding, finishing, and machining complex components to exact specifications using borers, jig grinders, and related precision equipment. The ideal candidate has strong blueprint reading skills, a quality-first mindset, and experience working to tight tolerances in a production or toolroom setting.
Location: Kettering, OH
Must reside within commuting distance – no relocation assistance provided
Key Responsibilities
Precision Grinding & Machining
Set up and operate boring and jig grinding equipment to produce precision components
Perform internal, external, and surface grinding to meet exact engineering tolerances
Interpret blueprints, GD&T, sketches, and work instructions to determine machining requirements
Select and install proper tooling, fixtures, and abrasives for each job
Quality & Inspection
Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, etc.)
Ensure all work meets dimensional and quality specifications before release
Document inspection results and maintain quality records as required
Identify and report non-conforming parts or process issues
Setup & Maintenance
Perform machine setups, offsets, and adjustments for production runs
Maintain equipment in clean, safe, and operational condition
Perform basic preventive maintenance and notify maintenance of issues as needed
Production Support
Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality teams to optimize processes
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to machining efficiency and quality
Maintain production schedules while ensuring accuracy and repeatability
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred
2+ years of experience in jig grinding, precision grinding, or toolroom machining
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
Experience using precision measuring instruments
Understanding of machining materials, cutting tools, and grinding techniques
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Skills
Aerospace or high-precision manufacturing experience
CNC grinding experience (a plus, not required)
Familiarity with tight-tolerance production environments
Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude
