This leadership role sits at the intersection of technical excellence, team development, and product delivery within a mission-driven SaaS organization focused on improving clinical research outcomes. You will lead a small but high-impact team of engineers, guiding both day-to-day execution and long-term architectural direction. Acting as a hands-on engineering leader, you will ensure scalable, reliable, and secure solutions while fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will partner closely with product and cross-functional stakeholders to accelerate delivery, reduce technical debt, and improve developer experience. This role requires a balance of technical depth, people leadership, and strategic thinking in a fast-paced, distributed environment. You will also play a key role in hiring, mentoring, and growing engineering talent while helping shape agile processes that drive predictable, high-quality outcomes.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed team of up to 5 software engineers, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
- Drive technical direction and review system designs to ensure scalability, reliability, security, and long-term platform alignment
- Participate in hands-on engineering work when needed, including code reviews and technical guidance on architecture decisions
- Own and improve agile development processes to ensure consistent, predictable, and high-quality product delivery
- Partner with product teams to accelerate feature development and reduce technical debt across the platform
- Ensure strong planning, prioritization, and communication practices to meet delivery commitments and stakeholder expectations
- Recruit, interview, and hire engineers aligned with organizational values and technical standards
- Promote developer productivity and continuously improve engineering practices, tools, and workflows
- Support cross-functional collaboration to solve complex technical challenges and deliver impactful solutions
- 6+ years of experience in software engineering and engineering management, with a strong record of delivering complex product features
- Proven experience leading small engineering teams in Agile, fast-paced, distributed environments
- Strong technical background with the ability to contribute to architectural discussions and code-level reviews
- Demonstrated success improving developer experience, engineering efficiency, and team velocity
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with a focus on coaching and team development
- Experience working with modern cloud-based architectures; familiarity with technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, and distributed systems is a plus
- Interest in healthcare or clinical research technology is highly valued
- Comfortable using modern AI tools and understanding their impact on software development workflows
