Job Function:
The Athletic Coordinator, under the direction of the Athletic Supervisor, develops, plans, administers and evaluates youth and adult sports programs and assists with recreation programming and operations at the Nathaniel Bell Community Resource and Recreation Center. This position assists in supervising staff and creating measured outcomes for staff growth and improvement. The position assists the Supervisor in developing and delivering a wide array of sports, recreation and Bell Center programs and opportunities. This position also provides direction and leadership for the achievement of goals in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards.

Essential Duties:
- Assists the Supervisor to develop, plan, promote, administer, evaluate and provide leadership to sports programs and recreation programming at the Bell Center.
- Assists the Supervisor with game schedules, rosters and program schedules utilizing appropriate technology.
- Assists the Supervisor to create, implement and update rules and procedures for sports and recreation programs.
- Supervises sports programming and assigned Bell Center recreation activities during evenings and weekends.
- Evaluates programs and makes necessary changes to ensure quality improvements.
- Monitors recreational programming to ensure standards and safety requirements are being met.
- Seeks sponsors for leagues and programs.
- Builds relationships with community partners that add value to programming, including programming and resources offered at the Bell Center.
- Helps coordinate City recreational special events.
- Ensures adequate and appropriate program supplies are available.
- Maintains program equipment.
- Maintains athletic and Bell Center program areas in a clean, presentable condition.
- Ensures athletic facilities and assigned Bell Center program areas are ready for scheduled activities.
- Recruit participants, staff, and volunteers.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with City policies, procedures and applicable laws.
- Assists the Supervisor to create, implement and maintain volunteer training programs.
- Ensures volunteers complete required background checks.
- Communicates effectively with staff, program participants, parents and volunteers.
- Provides outstanding customer service.
- Resolves participant concerns and complaints in a timely manner.
- Coordinates program promotion, communications and outreach as needed.
- Attends required staff meetings and trainings and provides program updates.
- Coordinates with Athletics, Bell Center and other Recreation staff to support programming and facility operations.
- Enforces safety standards and mitigates risk.
- Follows established emergency procedures.
- Maintains current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ensures applicable State of Florida Department of Health requirements are met.
- Assists with daily Bell Center operations as assigned, including participant supervision, open recreation, programs and activity areas.
- Serves as Manager on Duty at athletic facilities and the Bell Center as assigned.
- Performs other functions as assigned.

- Skills in effective supervisory practices: in engaging employees in the process of organizational and personal/professional setting of goals and objectives, and in the informal and formal evaluation of performance pursuant to these goals and objectives.
- Ability to communicate understandably and succinctly both orally and in writing, and to understand instructions, policies, and other direction in both oral and written form.
- Ability to interpret the needs of the community’s citizens and groups for parks and recreation services and programs; ability to communicate with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community, and dialogue with them.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, City officials and the general public.
Required Qualifications:
- 1 or more years of experience working in sports, camps, or other recreational programming.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
- Previous supervisory experience necessary
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office & the ability to learn new software quickly
- Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
Essential Physical Skills:
- Ability physically to speak, hear within normal ranges, sit for extended periods of time, while demonstrating physical stamina and agility to quickly reach a participant or situation to prevent harm
- Be able lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to walk the parks as well as parks under construction, including climbing of hills, bending, and stooping.
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections).
- Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
- Must be able to operate computer systems and components, and parks and recreation related equipment.
Environmental Conditions:
- Works primarily in the outdoor environment and is subject to sun, heat, humidity, rain, cold and inclement weather. Will be subject to work inside in an office environment at various times.
- May be required to work City and/or Special events which occur on nights and weekends.
- Works within guidelines including the City of Mount Dora and Parks & Recreation Department policies and procedures, contract requirements, and Board of Education regulations.
- Work consists of varied duties in scheduling programs and events.
- Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the work.
- Work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.
- The employee occasionally lifts light objects and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
