Job Description

Product Lead Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Product Lead Engineer based in Brazil.

This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for guiding engineering direction across multiple Agile Scrum teams within a product area. You will serve as the primary technical authority, making implementation decisions and maintaining consistently high engineering standards. The role combines hands-on software development with mentorship, architecture ownership, and end-to-end delivery leadership. You will work across backend, frontend, and mobile platforms while helping teams navigate complex technical challenges and ambiguous requirements. As a player-coach, you will contribute production code while raising engineering quality and capability across the wider team. The position also offers significant ownership of critical product areas and the opportunity to strengthen team resilience through knowledge sharing and cross-training.

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the technical authority across multiple development teams, making implementation decisions, resolving technical disagreements, and maintaining high engineering standards.
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex features across backend, frontend, and mobile platforms, from design and implementation through deployment and monitoring.
  • Break down ambiguous requirements into clearly scoped technical tasks and proactively identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks.
  • Maintain an active player-coach role by regularly contributing high-quality production code and demonstrating strong engineering practices.
  • Conduct thorough and constructive code reviews that improve software quality and support the development of less experienced engineers.
  • Mentor Software Engineers through pairing, design discussions, technical guidance, and hands-on coaching.
  • Drive best practices across testing, branching strategies, documentation, security, and overall software development practices.
  • Collaborate with Product, QA, and Customer Success teams to clarify requirements, estimate work accurately, and deliver reliable features on schedule.
  • Communicate technical risks, progress, decisions, and tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Take primary ownership of one or more significant product areas, developing deep expertise in their architecture, behavior, and failure modes.
  • Act as the authoritative technical resource for decisions and issues within owned product areas.
  • Lead knowledge transfer and cross-training to ensure critical product expertise is distributed across the team and does not create individual bottlenecks.
  • Participate actively in cross-training led by other engineers to build broader familiarity with product areas and strengthen team resilience.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including experience working in production SaaS environments.
  • Deep proficiency in PHP and JavaScript/React, including software design patterns, performance optimization, and security best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of relational database design, data modeling, and SQL optimization, particularly with MySQL or MariaDB.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and upskill less experienced engineers.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to lead engineering work across complex and ambiguous requirements.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools and modern AI-enabled development workflows.

Benefits:

  • Fully remote position.
  • Full-time opportunity with significant technical ownership and leadership responsibility.
  • Opportunity to influence engineering standards across multiple Agile Scrum teams.
  • Hands-on player-coach environment combining technical leadership with production development.
  • Broad exposure to backend, frontend, and mobile software delivery.
  • Meaningful ownership of critical product areas, architecture, and technical decisions.
  • Opportunity to mentor engineers and contribute to team-wide technical capability and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborative work with Product, QA, and Customer Success teams.
  • Opportunity to work with modern AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows.
