Job Description

The Volunteer Experience Specialist ensures volunteer compliance with Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan’s policies and procedures as a means of strengthening the council’s ability to retain volunteers. They conduct regular outreach to ensure volunteers are completing the necessary tasks to both satisfy the requirements of their position and to ensure a successful Girl Scout experience.

Key Responsibilities:
• Maintains accurate records using the Salesforce database and provides timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer training and finance reports.
• Enforces GSSEM policy through regular outreach to volunteers regarding, but not limited to volunteer training requirements, financial reporting, troop viability, background checks, etc.
• Provides support to splitting troops to ensure new troop leaders are prepared for their role.
• Conducts outreach to volunteers previously involved in the Volunteer RelationsSM process to confirm adherence to the agreed-upon action plan when involving volunteer training.
• Assists troop leaders of disbanding troops in completing all necessary steps to close a Girl Scout troop.
• Approves travel and activities requiring GSSEM approval per the Safety Activity Checkpoints.
• Trains volunteers on a variety of topics to ensure they have a successful Girl Scout experience.
• Assists with team events including, but not limited to: an annual kick-off event, volunteer conference, mixer events, and annual volunteer awards event.
• Works cross-functionally with GSSEM staff to ensure the effective delivery of customer service to members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with concentration in adult education, communications, human resources, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Ability to recruit, select, train, motivate, coach, and provide leadership to adult volunteers.
• Ability to develop relationships with staff, volunteers, and community organizations.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend hours.

Essential Requirements:

Equipment Used: Computer/Laptop, calculator, multi-line telephone, TV/audio equipment.

Physical Activities: Climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, typing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Physical Demands: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently.
