Title: Summer Legal Policy Associate

The Job: The Center’s U.S. Policy and Advocacy Team is looking for enthusiastic, resourceful, and highly organized Summer Legal Policy Associates with a commitment to reproductive rights. The summer associates will engage in a variety of projects related to legislative tracking, research, legal and legislative analysis, and advocacy. Legal Policy Associates will be immersed in the Center’s dynamic policy and advocacy work and have an opportunity to hone their factual and legal research, writing and analysis skills. There are opportunities to participate in state or federal focused projects, please indicate your preference in your application materials. The Center’s Summer Associate program also includes opportunities for social events, networking opportunities, and other activities. The Summer Legal Policy Associate is full-time for up to 10 weeks.

The positions will be based in the Center’s New York City or Washington D.C. offices in a hybrid model of 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.

Primary Responsibilities: Summer Legal Associates will have the opportunity to gain valuable reproductive rights policy experience. The scope of the program may include, but is not limited to:

  • Monitoring, tracking, and legal analyses of state and federal statutes and regulations.
  • Conducting legal and factual research in connection with federal and state legislation.
  • Conducting legal and factual research in connection with state and federal advocacy strategies and theories.
  • Drafting memos to develop and carry out the Center’s legislative and advocacy goals.
  • Participating in meetings with Center attorneys, clients, co-counsel, and coalition partners.
  • Contributing to the Center’s strategic thinking and approach to policy advocacy.

Compensation: Summer Legal Policy Associates are highly encouraged to seek outside funding for their placement. The Center will supplement external funding to bring all Associates to our pay rate of $7,000 for the ten-week program.

Requirements:
  • Completed at least two years of law school by June 2027.
  • Interest in reproductive health, rights, and justice; gender justice; and/or other public interest issues.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to inclusive equity work and incorporating inclusive equitable principles into legal, programmatic, and partnership work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the Center as well as with external partners.
