Maintenance Lead
Location: Remote Site – Western Alaska
Help Support the Success of a World-Class Mining Project
Donlin Gold is seeking an experienced and motivated Maintenance Lead to oversee and coordinate maintenance activities that support safe, reliable, and efficient camp and facility operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the infrastructure, equipment, utility systems, and facilities that support employees and operations at a remote site in Western Alaska.
The Maintenance Lead is responsible for supervising maintenance personnel and contractors while planning, scheduling, and directing maintenance activities related to buildings, grounds, utility systems, camp infrastructure, and operational support equipment. This role ensures maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, operational requirements, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with broad maintenance experience, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
Maintenance Operations & Facility Support
- Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance operations involving camp equipment, facilities, utility systems, buildings, grounds, and operational infrastructure.
- Direct maintenance personnel engaged in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, structural, painting, welding, utility, and facility maintenance activities.
- Evaluate equipment, facilities, and systems to identify maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation requirements.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, and monitor work orders, preventive maintenance programs, repair projects, and operational support tasks.
- Coordinate and oversee maintenance of building systems including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, lighting, water systems, controls, and mechanical equipment.
- Supervise facility repairs, grounds maintenance, snow removal, custodial support activities, and general property upkeep as assigned.
- Ensure equipment and facilities remain safe, reliable, clean, and operational.
- Coordinate emergency repairs and operational response activities as needed.
Leadership & Personnel Management
- Supervise, mentor, train, and support maintenance personnel, skilled trades employees, contractors, and grounds personnel.
- Develop staffing schedules, work assignments, shift coverage plans, and project priorities.
- Conduct employee training, coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as appropriate.
- Promote safe work practices, accountability, teamwork, and operational efficiency.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and workforce development activities.
- Ensure employees understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Safety, Compliance & Quality Control
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with company safety requirements, environmental standards, and applicable regulations.
- Conduct safety meetings, inspections, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses.
- Investigate incidents, equipment failures, and operational concerns while preparing reports and corrective action recommendations.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specifications, operational requirements, and quality standards.
- Monitor contractor and vendor compliance with company safety and operational expectations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspections, permits, and documentation.
Planning, Inventory & Budget Support
- Coordinate maintenance planning, preventive maintenance schedules, and operational work activities.
- Requisition tools, equipment, materials, and replacement parts required for maintenance operations.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate procurement of maintenance materials and equipment.
- Assist with budget preparation, expenditure tracking, and cost-control initiatives.
- Support facility upgrades, equipment installations, and capital improvement projects.
- Analyze maintenance trends and equipment performance to improve reliability and efficiency.
Operational Support & Collaboration
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, safety, procurement, and site leadership to support operational objectives.
- Coordinate contractor services, maintenance shutdowns, and project support activities.
- Provide technical guidance related to maintenance systems, equipment, and facility operations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of new maintenance procedures and technologies.
- May oversee facility security operations or access control activities as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of maintenance, facilities, industrial, mechanical, electrical, or building systems experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience in maintenance or facility operations.
- Experience coordinating maintenance personnel, scheduling activities, and repair operations.
- Experience supporting maintenance systems, facility operations, or equipment repair programs.
- Technical certification, trade school training, or an Associate’s degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Systems, HVAC, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in mining, industrial operations, construction, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments preferred.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
- OSHA, MSHA, HVAC, electrical, or other maintenance-related certifications are beneficial.
- Experience managing contractors, custodial services, or grounds maintenance operations is an asset.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and scheduling skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, maintenance management systems, and reporting software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, make sound decisions, and adapt to changing operational demands.
