Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for procuring goods and services that support safe and efficient mining operations. This position manages purchasing activities, expedites orders, maintains supplier relationships, and ensures timely delivery while complying with company policies, applicable regulations, and procurement standards.

Working closely with operations, maintenance, warehouse, finance, and other business units, the Procurement Specialist helps ensure materials and services are available to meet operational requirements. This role also supports vendor management, purchasing process improvements, and accurate procurement documentation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Procurement: Source, purchase, and expedite materials, equipment, and services to meet operational and business requirements.
  • Vendor Management: Assist in the evaluation and selection of new vendors while maintaining positive working relationships with existing suppliers.
  • Purchase Order Administration: Ensure timely and accurate execution of purchase orders in accordance with company procurement standards and procedures.
  • Supplier Coordination: Manage supplier communications regarding order status, delivery schedules, quality concerns, invoicing, and payment inquiries.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Compile and analyze procurement data to monitor purchasing activities, team performance, and operational metrics.
  • Vendor Master Maintenance: Maintain accurate vendor master records and supporting procurement documentation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with operations, maintenance, finance, warehouse, and other departments to understand purchasing requirements and support business objectives.
  • Compliance: Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, applicable laws, regulations, and ethical purchasing practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, supplier performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Team Support: Provide guidance and support to procurement team members while promoting collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTSRequired
  • Minimum two (2) years of purchasing or procurement experience.
  • Experience in mining, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or similar industrial environments.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of purchasing principles, procurement processes, and supplier management.
  • Understanding of contract terminology and purchasing documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and handle confidential information.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Purchasing certifications or procurement-related education.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Experience with SAP Ariba or other electronic procurement systems.
  • Experience supporting mining operations or heavy industrial maintenance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Primarily office-based work with occasional visits to active mining and maintenance areas.
  • Sit for extended periods while using computers and office equipment.
  • Occasionally walk on uneven surfaces in industrial and mining environments.
  • May be required to climb stairs and access operational areas.
  • Occasionally lift and carry materials or office supplies up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and contractors in both office and field settings.

All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
