Job Description

The company and the role

BukuWarung is the MSME platform powering payments, credit and software for millions of micro and small businesses. We operate in two countries in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia as our home market, and we are growing roughly 2x every year on our way to becoming a public company.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing a team of five (1 Assistant Manager and 4 Staff) and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial records and statutory obligations. You are to lead and own the accounting, financial reporting, group consolidation, and statutory compliance across the group. BukuWarung operates through entities in Indonesia, Singapore, India, and the Philippines, and this role owns the consolidated group numbers and coordinates with in-country finance teams and external providers in each market.

This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional, ideally with an external audit background, who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is ready to build and strengthen finance processes in a high-growth fintech company.

Key Responsibilities

Group Consolidation & International Reporting

  • Own the monthly group consolidation across Indonesia, Singapore, India, and the Philippines, including intercompany eliminations, FX translation, and consolidation adjustments.

  • Act as the accounting counterpart for in-country finance leads and outsourced accounting, tax, and corporate secretarial providers in Singapore, India, and the Philippines; set reporting calendars, templates, and quality standards for their submissions.

  • Ensure group reporting is prepared on a consistent basis across local frameworks (PSAK, SFRS(I)/IFRS, Ind AS, PFRS) and reconcile local statutory accounts to group reporting.

  • Own intercompany agreements, recharges, and settlements, and lead the preparation of transfer pricing documentation with external advisors.

  • Support group-level reporting to investors, lenders, and the board, including due diligence data requests for fundraising and debt processes.

Month-End & Year-End Closing

  • Own and manage the full month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, provisions, and intercompany transactions.

  • Maintain balance sheet schedules, account reconciliations, and supporting working papers.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (operations, treasury, commercial) to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data.

  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and variance analysis for management review.

  • Continuously improve the close timeline and quality of deliverables.

Audit Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors during statutory and group audits.

  • Coordinate audit preparation across entities, including preparation of audit schedules, working papers, and management accounts.

  • Manage audit queries and ensure timely and accurate responses to auditor requests.

  • Drive resolution of audit findings and ensure implementation of agreed management actions.

  • Support internal review and control assessments as required.

Accounts Payable (AP) Management

  • Oversee end-to-end accounts payable processes, ensuring accurate and timely vendor payments.

  • Review and approve payment runs, ensuring proper documentation, authorization levels, and compliance with company policy.

  • Maintain vendor master data and manage vendor onboarding and reconciliation.

  • Identify and drive process improvements to optimize AP workflows and controls.

Inventory Accounting & Reconciliation

  • Oversee accounting for inventory transactions, including recognition, costing, and valuation in line with applicable standards.

  • Lead periodic inventory reconciliation between physical counts, operational records, and the general ledger.

  • Investigate and resolve inventory variances with operations and supply chain teams; implement corrective actions.

  • Ensure accurate and timely inventory reporting for month-end close and audit purposes.

Tax & Statutory Compliance

  • Oversee preparation and timely filing of all local tax obligations, including VAT, withholding taxes (EWT), corporate income tax, and other statutory requirements.

  • Ensure all transactions are properly tax-coded and compliant with Philippine tax regulations and applicable international standards.

  • Liaise with external tax advisors, the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), and other regulatory bodies, including management of tax audits, SP2DK responses, and objections.

  • Monitor changes in local tax laws and assess their impact on the business; provide guidance to internal stakeholders.

  • Lead the preparation of transfer pricing documentation and support group tax reporting requirements.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly manage and develop a team of 1 Assistant Manager and 3 Finance Staff.

  • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and support individual career development.\

  • Distribute workloads effectively and ensure team capacity is aligned with business priorities.

  • Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.

Financial Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Ensure financial statements are prepared in compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and PSAK standards.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, controls, and reporting efficiency.

  • Support ad-hoc finance analysis, business partnering activities, and special projects as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent professional qualification is strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years of relevant experience, with a strong foundation in external audit (Big 4 or mid-tier audit firm experience highly preferred).

  • At least 2–3 years in a managerial or team lead capacity overseeing accounting and reporting functions.

  • Solid hands-on experience in AP management, inventory accounting, month-end close, audit coordination, and tax compliance.

  • Prior experience in a startup, fintech, or high-growth company environment is a significant plus, demonstrated ability to build processes from scratch and operate with limited resources.

Technical Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS and PSAK, ability to apply standards in practice, not just in theory.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Xero, or similar).

  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; experience with financial reporting tools is a plus.

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate financial matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborative team player with strong stakeholder management skills.

  • Proactive problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
