Description: Join Our Team as the Chief Human Resources Officer!

The Arc Western Montana supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families by providing the skills, tools, and supports that foster self-determination and inclusion. Based in Missoula, our organization operates 10 group homes, a day services center, and specialized behavioral and medical support services. With approximately 170 employees across direct support, clinical, administrative and operational roles, our work depends on a skilled, supported and engaged workforce.

As Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), you’ll provide strategic leadership while remaining actively involved in the daily operations of Human Resources. Partnering with executive leadership, managers, and supervisors, you’ll guide employee relations, recruitment and retention, performance management, leave administration, workers’ compensation, compliance, compensation and benefits, and training and development. You’ll also lead efforts to strengthen workforce effectiveness, improve HR processes through technology and data, develop HR team members, and build sustainable practices that support organizational goals.

We’re looking for an adaptable, forward-thinking, and solutions-oriented leader who can navigate competing priorities and available resources while driving meaningful change. Through strong partnerships with leaders at all levels, you’ll strengthen management capabilities, promote employee engagement and accountability, and foster a positive workplace culture aligned with The Arc’s mission and commitment to quality services.

What We Offer:
  • Salary range of $80,000–$110,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience
  • An opportunity to make a meaningful impact through a mission-driven nonprofit organization
  • A senior leadership role with the ability to influence organizational strategy and workforce effectiveness
  • Collaboration with executive leadership and department directors
  • Opportunities to strengthen HR programs, improve processes and lead organizational change
  • Opportunities for professional growth and leadership development
Benefits (for Full-Time Employees):
  • Up to 3 weeks Paid Time Off (PTO) annually
  • Medical & Dental insurance starting at $85/month
  • Vision & Life Insurance
  • 403(b) Retirement Plan with up to 3.5% company match
  • Eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)
Your Role:
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all Human Resources functions.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop and implement workforce strategies that support organizational goals.
  • Lead employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution efforts.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, retention, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Direct compensation, benefits, leave administration, and workers’ compensation programs.
  • Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and best practices that promote organizational effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process redesign, change management, and the effective use of HR technology.
  • Coach, support, and develop managers and supervisors in employee management and leadership practices.
  • Lead organizational training, leadership development, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Utilize workforce data and metrics to support strategic decision-making and organizational planning.
  • Mentor, develop, and oversee Human Resources team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, and people-related matters.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture aligned with The Arc’s mission, values, and commitment to quality services.

This is an in-office role, based out of our Center in Missoula, MT, just off Russell. Some travel between group homes will be needed; all homes are within city limits and mileage is reimbursed.
