POSITION SUMMARY:
The San Damiano Spiritual Life Center located in White Post, VA is committed to the spiritual development of the Diocesan community through guided and directed prayer experiences, spirituality programs, evenings of theological reflection and retreats – all offering guests the opportunity to be renewed and refreshed. The Center strives to build a dynamic community of faith, hope and love wherein the mind and heart of Jesus are revealed more fully in the hearts, actions and worship of all who celebrate God’s sanctifying love in their lives and in our world.
The Hospitality Assistant performs a variety of administrative, customer service, kitchen and housekeeping duties in support of the Center and its guests.
This position is a part-time, shift work position – weekdays and weekends, evenings, or nights.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Provides a warm welcome to guests upon arrival to the center; facilitates check-in process; shares the history of the center; provides a tour of the facility that includes highlighting the Emergency Exits and areas that are not for guest use; provides guests with the rules for proper use of the facility that includes key safety information and emergency evacuation plans.
- Sets up and breaks down audiovisual equipment; tests equipment to ensure proper operation in advance of client use; provides operational instructions to clients and ensures technical support during the client’s usage.
- Proactively checks on clients throughout the retreat to ensure needs are being met and guests are satisfied with the overall experience; serves as a point of contact for guests during their visit; handles guest requests and follows up to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Assists in the day to day operational tasks of the center such as light housekeeping, general facility maintenance, and the washing of linens; participates in the routine deep cleaning activities.
- As needed, serves as part of daily kitchen team for meal preparation, serving, and clean up.
- Ensures that the center is safe and properly secured; performs regular patrols of the building and outside perimeter; monitors and controls access to building and outside facilities; documents unusual occurrences; reports suspicious incidents to appropriate authorities.
- Provides a warm send-off to guests upon their departure.
- Requests and collects client evaluations at the conclusion of the retreats.
- Performs tasks assigned by the Hospitality Coordinator.

- Physical Demands/Working Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weight of 10 – 50 pounds
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read
- Frequently required to sit, hear, talk and use repetitive motion of the hands/wrists
- Work is performed in and out of office setting
- Office work is performed in an individual, well-lighted cubicle or office. The noise level is low to moderate.
- Work schedule fluctuates. Weekend work regularly required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge/Skills: Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail; ability to multi-task and change priorities quickly, while retaining a positive and customer focused demeanor; ability to use basic computer programs to process and keep records; ability to comprehend and apply specialized nomenclature, systems and procedures; ability to handle sensitive situations appropriately and with discretion and confidentiality; high level of energy and enthusiasm; active listener; team player.
- Education Required: High school graduate or equivalent.
- Years and Types of Experience: 1 year of administrative and customer service related experience, preferably in a hotel or retreat center environment.
