Description:

The Sociology and Criminology Department at Assumption University seeks to hire 1-2 adjuncts for the spring 2027 semester to teach, in person, one section of CRM 130: Introduction to the Criminal Justice System; one section of CRM 243: Juvenile Delinquency; one section of CRM 275: Sociology of Law; and one section of CRM 280 Sociology of Punishment or CRM 255: Special Topics (an topic of your choosing). CRM 130 meets T/Th 8:30-9:45am; CRM 243 meets T/Th from 3:30-4:45pm and CRM 275 meets T/Th from 5:00-6:15pm. CRM 280 or 255 meets on MWF from 10:30-11:20am. All courses are capped at 30 students. Class meetings for the spring 2027 semester run from January 19 to May 10, which includes the final exam week. Compensation is $4,000 per class.

Adjuncts are welcomed as important contributors to the department and our students, and are provided with office space, email, voicemail, and support and resources needed for quality teaching. Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to teach additional courses in fall 2027 and in future semesters as needed.

Requirements:
  • Applicants must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
  • Applicants with a PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology (with a demonstrated concentration in Criminology or Criminal Justice) or a related field are preferred. ABD graduate students with prior teaching experience will also be considered, as will those with a terminal master’s degree in Criminology or a related field and prior teaching experience.
