About Silverback Concrete
Silverback Concrete is a family-led commercial concrete subcontractor built on grit, accountability, and a client-first mindset. We specialize in mission-critical and data center construction, self-performing structural and slab concrete scopes on some of the most demanding campuses in the country. Our reputation is earned in the field — through quality work, dependable schedule performance, and the kind of ownership that makes general contractors want us back on the next project. As our data center work scales across Virginia and the broader Mid-Atlantic, we are expanding our project management bench with people who want to grow with the company. When we say “We’ve Got Your Back,” we mean it for our clients, our crews, and each other.
Position Summary
The Project Manager (PM) owns the successful delivery of concrete scopes on Silverback’s data center and mission-critical projects, leading each job from buyout through closeout. Operating out of our South Hill, VA office, the PM is accountable for the budget, schedule, quality, and safety performance of assigned work — directing project documentation and coordination, driving submittals, RFIs, procurement, and change management, and serving as Silverback’s primary point of contact with the general contractor and owner. This is an elevated role: beyond running the day-to-day, the PM mentors assistant project managers and project engineers, sharpens the systems and processes the team runs on, and partners with company leadership to protect margin and strengthen the client relationships that win the next project. The PM directs field leadership, the QC team, ready-mix and testing partners, and the GC toward clean, well-documented, on-schedule, on-budget concrete work.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
The PM leads the project team and is accountable for keeping the work — and the paperwork that supports it — ahead of the field. Primary responsibilities include:
• Team leadership & development: Lead the on-site project team and mentor assistant project managers and project engineers — setting priorities, reviewing their work, and building the bench that lets Silverback take on more data center work.
• Project controls: Own the accuracy and integrity of all project records in Procore — drawings, specifications, ASIs, RFIs, submittals, and change documentation — and set the standard for how the team maintains them.
• Submittals & RFIs: Drive the submittal and RFI process to closure, prioritizing the items that protect the pour schedule and escalating with the GC, suppliers, and engineers when responses stall.
• Procurement & buyout: Own material buyout and delivery scheduling for concrete, reinforcing steel, embeds, vapor retarder, curing materials, and formwork; issue and manage purchase orders and hold lead times against the pour schedule.
• Quality management: Partner with the QC team to enforce mix design approvals, pre-placement checklists, cylinder break results, and floor flatness/levelness (FF/FL) requirements; own the QC record set and drive corrective action when results trend off-spec.
• Cost, billing & forecasting: Own the project budget: prepare and negotiate change order requests, manage T&M tickets, produce monthly pay applications, maintain accurate cost coding, and deliver cost-to-complete forecasts to leadership.
• Meetings & communication: Lead Silverback’s participation in GC coordination and OAC meetings, own the resulting action items, and keep proactive, documented communication flowing with the GC, owner representatives, and trade partners.
• Safety leadership: Champion the safety program alongside field leadership — pre-task planning, JHAs/AHAs, and compliance documentation — and reinforce a culture where production never comes before safety.
• Closeout: Own closeout from the start of the job — as-builts, warranties, and final QC records — so handover is clean, complete, and on time.
Expectations
Success in this role is measured by project outcomes — margin, schedule, quality, and safety — and by the strength of the team the PM builds around the work. We expect a PM to:
• Take full ownership of assigned projects and drive them to completion on budget, on schedule, and to spec, without being chased.
• Set the standard for disciplined documentation — in our work, accurate records protect the company, the margin, and the crew.
• Be the resource the field team and assistant PMs lean on, and actively develop the people coming up behind you.
• Be present and reliable on-site at the South Hill, VA project; travel within the local area as the work requires.
• Communicate early and often — surface problems before they become delays and own the path to resolution.
• Represent Silverback professionally with general contractors, owners, and trade partners, and protect the relationships that win repeat work.
• Bring a grit-oriented, team-first attitude and the drive to grow into senior project management and operations leadership.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on construction experience (5+ years).
• Demonstrated experience managing construction projects through full-lifecycle delivery, including ownership of budget, schedule, and change management.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and hands-on command of Procore.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to the jobsite.
• OSHA 30-Hour certification — Silverback will provide it at company expense if not already held.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience on mission-critical, data center, or large commercial concrete projects.
• Hands-on experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and/or digital takeoff software; PMP or a CM-related certification a plus.
• Familiarity with ACI and ASTM concrete standards and FF/FL testing concepts.
• Prior experience managing scopes for a concrete self-perform contractor.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This role is split between an office environment and active construction jobsites. While on-site, the PM must be able to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and remain on their feet for extended periods. The role requires occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, and ongoing construction activity. Personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and boots) is required at all times on-site. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Compensation & Benefits
Silverback Concrete offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience. The benefits below are representative — confirm against the current company package before posting.
Base Pay | $90,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience |
Benefits | Health, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off and holidays; professional development support and a clear path to Senior Project Manager and operations leadership. (Confirm against current company package before posting.) |
