Job Summary (Essential Functions)
Coordinates banquet functions for the club in the absence of the Banquet Operations Manager and assists the Banquet Operations Manager during larger functions. Works closely with service personnel to ensure member and guest satisfaction, service excellence, and presentation standards are consistently maintained. Banquet Captains are expected to independently supervise and execute smaller events while ensuring all club standards, event specifications, and service expectations are met.
Job Tasks/Duties· Under general supervision, coordinates and supervises catered events based on client specifications and Banquet Event Orders (BEOs).
· Works with Food and Beverage Managers, the Banquet Operations Manager, Banquet Chef, and others to coordinate staffing requirements for events.
· Assists in directing banquet staff during all phases of catered events.
· Effectively communicates service expectations and event requirements to banquet staff.
· Coordinates food service between the kitchen and banquet service staff.
· Inspects linens and event materials to ensure proper appearance and readiness.
· Assists with inventory management of banquet service ware, equipment, and supplies.
· Enforces established club rules, regulations, policies, and service standards.
· Reviews table diagrams, room setups, and event requirements to ensure accuracy.
· Participates in pre-function meetings to ensure smooth and efficient service execution.
· Ensures banquet staff are properly groomed and in the correct uniform.
· Assists with training, coaching, and supervision of banquet service staff.
· Maintains the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all banquet areas.
· Coordinates with event coordinators and department leaders to ensure all event requirements are met.
· Provides VIP service as necessary.
· Ensures compliance with all applicable state and local alcohol service laws, as well as club policies and procedures.
· Develops event-specific action plans from setup through breakdown and reset.
· Notifies the Manager on Duty of guest concerns, complaints, or service issues requiring attention.
· Oversees all aspects of event operations from setup through event completion.
· Independently supervises and executes smaller banquet events, ensuring successful event flow, service standards, and guest satisfaction.
· Serves as the primary on-site leader for assigned events when designated by management.
· Provides coaching, guidance, and real-time direction to banquet servers to promote consistent service standards and team development.
· Completes other duties and assignments as directed by the Banquet Manager or supervisor.
Training and Performance Check-Ins· New Banquet Captains will participate in structured 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day check-ins with the Banquet Operations Manager.
· Check-ins will focus on role proficiency, leadership development, communication, service standards, and operational knowledge.
· Feedback and development goals will be discussed during each check-in to support continued growth and transition into the role.
Requirements:
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· Required to stand for extended periods and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, twist, and reach.
· Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
· Performs continuous repetitive motions throughout shifts.
· Works in hot, humid, and occasionally noisy environments.
Education and/or Experience
· High school graduate or equivalent.
· Previous fine dining and/or banquet experience.
· Must be at least 19 years of age to serve alcohol.
· Preferred two years of Banquet Server experience.
· Proven track record of successfully assisting with banquet functions and special events.
· Working knowledge of liquor laws and public entertainment license requirements preferred.
