Description: BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Manages hospital equipment to include NICU equipment and infusion and feeding pumps. Prepares usage reports for Director/Manager/Supervisor. Cleans equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions. Checks equipment for needed repairs. Manages NICU inventory and orders supplies.

License/Certification Required: None

Minimum Work Experience: Related experience preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Computer skills required.
• Must be able to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
• Must be able to meet demands of active position involving pushing/pulling heavy carts/equipment, extensive walking, standing, bending and lifting moderate to heavy weights.
• Must be able to tolerate odors from strong chemicals for cleaning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Makes equipment rounds in all patient care areas and ensures adequate supply or required equipment is available for use in each area. Initiates the cleaning, disinfection and reassembly of equipment according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Places clean equipment covers over all clean and ready to use equipment and seal with clean tag, per standards. Actively monitors and checks for needed repairs on equipment or preventive maintenance that is due. Enters work order in Meditech and delivers equipment to Biomed.
• Accurately monitors, tracks, and documents location of equipment in a manner that others in the department can read and understand.
• Assists in determining needed par levels for NICU stock. Delivers requested equipment/supplies to patient care area as requested.
• Checks all supplies for expiration dates and ensures packaging is clean and intact.
• Maintains decontamination and clean storage areas every shift.
• Cleans areas and equipment cart at the end of each shift.
• Restocks all needed cleaning supplies at the end of each shift. Maintains daily inventory of NICU supplies.
• Orders all general, non-chargeable supplies for NICU and Neonatal Transport in order to keep all patient areas fully stocked.
• Cleans NICU bedside tables and stocks with designated supplies to return to required par levels.
• Documents accurate count of equipment cleaned per shift each day. Ensures all NICU equipment is cleaned on schedule.
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
• Responds to phone/pager requests for equipment or supplies in a timely manner.
• Monitors and redistribute excess equipment to areas that are below par levels in proactive manner, anticipating the internal customers’ needs.
• Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
• Cleans and maintains work area, without being instructed to do so, and up to department standards. Influences the efficiency of others by doing their individual work on time and thoroughly as assigned or expected.
• Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested.
• Checks expiration dates when stocking supplies ensuring FIFO.
• Orders supplies as needed based on historical/projected usage.
• Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
