Description:

Job Summary: The Kennel Attendant plays a vital role in supporting patient care by ensuring all kennels,

treatment areas, and common spaces are clean, sanitized, and well-maintained. This position is

responsible for performing routine and deep-cleaning tasks, stocking essential supplies, and upholding

high standards of safety and infection control. Working within a 24-hour emergency veterinary facility,

the Kennel Attendant must demonstrate flexibility, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to

maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients, clients, and staff. Responsibilities include

cleaning and disinfecting kennels and treatment areas, washing and sanitizing laundry, maintaining

supply levels, and supporting clinical teams as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Previous medical, veterinary, or professional cleaning experience

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including safety labels, cleaning protocols, and SOPs.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive and professional interactions with staff and clients.
  • Strong attention to detail with a consistent focus on cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive materials discreetly.
  • Ability to learn and apply proper cleaning, dilution, and sanitation techniques for all cleaning agents and equipment.
  • Technological ability to navigate and review scheduling platforms, maintain and monitor a work email account, and communicate efficiently using electronic systems.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Follow a structured cleaning schedule that includes daily, weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly duties as outlined in the rotating duty chart.
  • Clean, disinfect, and polish kennels, doors, tables, and related equipment using appropriate tools such as squeegees, sponges, and approved cleaning solutions.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and disinfect high-touch surfaces throughout the treatment floor, including exam tables, patient and employee kennels, supply rooms, and common areas.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of essential equipment and supplies (e.g., carriers, leashes, bandages, flushes).• Wash and sanitize patient items—including food and water bowls, blankets, towels, and pet bedding—in accordance with infectious disease and sanitation standards.
  • Sanitize and restock treatment areas, including isolation/contagion zones, while using proper
  • PPE and adhering to cross-contamination prevention protocols.
  • Correctly dilute, apply, and handle chemical cleaning agents to ensure safety and protect hospital surfaces and equipment.
  • Comply with all health, safety, infection control, and biohazard protocols within a medical and animal care environment.
  • Assist coworkers in a respectful and collaborative manner as a representative of the Pet
  • Emergency Clinic and Referral Center.
  • Identify and promptly report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or maintenance needs to the appropriate manager or administrative team.
  • Notify veterinarians, veterinary technicians, or veterinary assistants of any observed health or behavioral concerns in animal patients.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to cleaning procedures, equipment operation, and facility safety protocols.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Physical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds from floor level or higher multiple times per day.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and climb for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate objects as required for daily tasks.
  • Ability to learn basic animal handling restraint as needed
  • Sufficient vision capabilities for close, distance, color, and peripheral perception, as well as depth perception and focus adjustment.
  • Potential exposure to anesthetic gases with appropriate protective measures.
  • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases.
