Situated within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is a vibrant destination resort community, local government organization and leader in providing municipal programs, services, progressive planning, and infrastructure. The RMOW is a high-performance municipal organization and significant tourism economy serving a community of 15,000 permanent residents and over three million annual visitors. The Utilities department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Millwright. Reporting to the Wastewater Maintenance Foreperson, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as possible.

The Millwright is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing applicable systems primarily related to water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Federal, Provincial, and municipal regulations and standards. This skilled work involves the use of specialized equipment to build, rebuild, install, repair, and remove machinery including the use of hoists, lift trucks, grapple devices, power tools, and hand tools. The Millwright will also read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to define the scope of work, provide direction and consultation, and maintain all relevant documentation and reporting.

Qualified candidates will possess a Grade 12 diploma and a Red Seal or BCTQ Journeyman Millwright Certification and at least 5 years of journeyperson experience working in a similar or industrial setting. Qualified candidates must have thorough knowledge of the standard methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in this type of work and considerable knowledge of the hazards, necessary safety precautions and the applicable rules and regulations. Also, possess the ability to understand and conduct verbal and written instructions and to direct skilled or semi-skilled workers as required. Candidates must be able to perform manual outdoor work in all weather, including occasional night shifts, in conditions that may be wet, dirty, malodorous, or confined.

The successful candidate can work independently, and take initiative to solve problems in the field, operationally, and in emergency situations. The successful candidate demonstrates strong decision-making skills with technical knowledge of standard methods, practices, and use of tools and machinery for this type of work. The successful candidate also demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and equitable workplace and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others including the public and contractors, while contributing to a positive environment. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.

This position works 76.5 hours bi-weekly at a rate of $45.75 per hour. Employees in the Utilities department shall normally work a schedule consisting of 8 days of work in a fourteen-day period. Each day of work shall be 9.5 hours exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.
