Job Description

Endoscopy Technician

The Endoscopy Technician supports the physicians, nurses, and anesthesia providers of the GHS Endoscopy Center by assisting with endoscopic procedures, endoscope reprocessing, equipment preparation, room turnover, inventory management, and environmental cleaning. The Endoscopy Technician helps ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with infection prevention standards, facility policies, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Procedure Room Support

  • Assists physicians and nursing staff during endoscopic procedures.
  • Prepares procedure rooms, equipment, instruments, and supplies before procedures.
  • Assists with specimen collection, labeling, and handling.
  • Assists with patient positioning and transport as directed.
  • Performs room turnover between procedures.
  • Maintains procedure room readiness throughout the day.

Endoscope Reprocessing

  • Performs bedside pre-cleaning of endoscopes immediately after procedures.
  • Performs leak testing, manual cleaning, high-level disinfection, drying, and storage of endoscopes and accessories.
  • Operates endoscope reprocessing equipment according to facility policy and manufacturer instructions.
  • Completes required reprocessing documentation.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions or concerns promptly.

Equipment, Supplies, and Cleaning

  • Stocks procedure rooms and support areas.
  • Assists with inventory management and supply organization.
  • Cleans and disinfects procedure rooms and designated work areas.
  • Properly handles biohazardous waste, linen, and sharps.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Quality and Compliance

  • Follows all infection prevention, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in orientation, annual training, competency validation, and staff meetings.
  • Assists with quality improvement and survey readiness activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
